A browse-committed AB CIP / TwinCAT / FOCAS tag bound with its model's DEFAULT
data type, not the one the device reported. A browsed REAL committed as
`{"tagPath":"Pump_1_Speed","dataType":"DInt"}` — and those three drivers decode
the wire bytes by that field, not by the raw row's OPC UA DataType — so the tag
read four bytes of a float through an integer decoder and published a plausible
wrong number with no error raised anywhere. FOCAS was missed when #536 was filed.
The type is CARRIED, not derived. Reverse-mapping the leaf's driver-agnostic
DriverDataType looks like the smaller fix and is wrong: SInt/Int/DInt/USInt/UInt
all collapse into Int32 on the way out of the driver, so that version would bind
a 16-bit INT as a 32-bit DINT while appearing to fix the REAL. Drivers now state
their own type name on DriverAttributeInfo.NativeDataType, which reaches the
picker as AttributeInfo.AddressFields["dataType"] and the commit mapper from
there. A leaf that states nothing keeps the model default — the pre-#536
behaviour, kept deliberately as the fallback rather than a guess.
Numeric strings are refused before parsing: Enum.TryParse accepts "9" for any
enum and Enum.IsDefined then confirms it, so an unguarded parse would bind a tag
to a type nobody named. A test caught this in the first version of the guard.
--- and the other half, which the fixture was hiding ---
Test Connect on a device with NO authored tags — every AB CIP device at the
moment an operator first presses the button — reported "CIP handshake failed"
against a healthy controller. That was written down as a fixture limitation
("ab_server doesn't implement @raw_cpu_type"). Both halves of that were wrong:
* @raw_cpu_type is not a libplctag special tag at all (only @raw, @tags and
@udt/ are), so it goes out as an ordinary symbolic name that no controller
defines, and the controller's "tag does not exist" IS the successful answer.
* ab_server answered an unresolvable tag path with CIP 0x03 where a Logix
controller answers 0x04 — ErrorBadParam vs ErrorNotFound, which the probe
classifies oppositely. Fixed in vendored patch 0002.
* With the fixture then telling the truth, the real defect surfaced:
AbCipDriverProbe.IsReachableException matched the native C status spellings
("STATUS_NOT_FOUND"), but libplctag.NET throws with the MANAGED enum name
("ErrorNotFound"). Those substrings can never match, so the reachable
classification could not fire on the exception path — which is the path every
no-authored-tags probe takes. This was failing on real hardware too, not just
against the sim. It now recovers the Status and defers to IsReachableStatus,
so there is one classification rather than two that can drift.
Rejected: switching the fallback to @tags. libplctag builds a tag-listing tag
with NO network I/O, so it reports OK against any TCP listener — measured green
against a Mosquitto broker.
Verification: full solution suite green. Falsification runs confirm exactly the
intended tests go red — 9 for the type carry, 3 (the reachable statuses only) for
the probe classification. Live on docker-dev: browse-committed TestString/
Motor_Run/TestSINT now store String/Bool/SInt, alongside last session's
Pump_1_Speed still holding the wrong DInt. TestSINT is the falsifier — its row
DataType is Int32, identical to TestDINT's, so no reverse map could have produced
"SInt".
Known consequence: pre-existing browse-committed tags keep their wrong dataType;
the fix applies to new commits only.

The AbCip controller browse could never be verified end to end: libplctag's
ab_server answers CIP service 0x55 (Get Instance Attribute List) on the Symbol
Object class with "unsupported", so the `@tags` walk had no backend. #468's own
definition of done offered a sim that serves `@tags` as an alternative to real
hardware; this is that.
The fixture now applies a vendored patch teaching ab_server to serve the Symbol
Object listing, with partial-transfer paging. Correctness is checked against
libplctag's own `list_tags_logix` rather than against our decoder — our decoder
is the thing under test, so its agreement would prove nothing. The clone is also
pinned to a concrete tag: the Dockerfile called `--branch release` "pinned" while
tracking a branch that moves.
That immediately exposed a real defect. CipSymbolObjectDecoder advanced to an
even byte boundary after each symbol name, but entries are packed with no
padding — libplctag walks them by sizeof(entry) + string_len, and a captured
reply confirms it. Any odd-length name therefore desynchronised every entry
behind it, and odd-length names are ordinary. In the live browse below,
`Motor_Run` is 9 bytes and first on the wire, so the old decoder would have
shown that one tag and silently dropped the other eight.
Every existing multi-entry test passed throughout, because the test builder
padded exactly as the decoder did: the two agreed with each other and neither
agreed with a controller. The builder no longer pads, and the layout is pinned
by a captured reply (CipSymbolObjectWireCaptureTests) instead of by a second
statement of the assumption. Restoring the alignment step reddens exactly the
three new tests and none of the 29 others.
Live gate on docker-dev, all three of #468's criteria:
- populated tree — all nine seeded tags render as leaves, in wire order
- refresh re-captures
- leaf commit — Pump_1_Speed + TestDINT saved with their CIP tag paths
The gate also surfaced two things it was not asked about: browse-commit drops
the discovered data type, so a browsed REAL commits as a DINT and the driver
decodes it as one (filed as #536), and Test Connect fails against this fixture
regardless of the device because it probes `@raw_cpu_type` (documented).
TwinCAT and FOCAS still have no browsable backend; #468's AbCip half is closed,
theirs is not.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015p7wGqy3YpZNCpDzTpGMKo
Both libplctag drivers carried Port on their tag-create params and consumed it
nowhere. The runtimes set Tag.Gateway to the bare host, and libplctag does not
fail on a portless gateway — it substitutes 44818. So an authored port was not
ignored in the harmless sense; the connection was silently REDIRECTED to whatever
answers on the default port. On a plant network that is another PLC, and the
driver would read its tags and report them Good.
This is the root cause of #534's four AbLegacy integration failures, and the
explanation for every observation in that issue: with each PCCC family moved to
its own port (44819/44820/44821), the driver still dialled 44818 and kept talking
to the AB CIP fixture's ControlLogix container. Hence PCCC-against-ControlLogix
errors under every server-path / client-cip-path permutation — the permutations
were never reaching a PCCC server at all.
Established by a direct libplctag 1.5.2 probe outside the repo, which answered
#534's open question: PCCC works fine against ab_server for all three families,
with path="1,0" AND with path=null (only path="" throws ErrorBadData). Since the
library could reach the simulators and the driver could not, the difference had
to be in our Tag construction, and Gateway was the only field that differed.
Same probe confirmed libplctag accepts host:port in the gateway attribute, which
is what the fix emits.
AbCip has the identical defect and is fixed alongside. It has never been
observable there: every AbCip fixture profile binds 44818, so no test that driver
has could distinguish "uses the authored port" from "always uses 44818". A
fixture that only ever exercises the default value cannot falsify a rule about
non-default values, however many tests point at it.
The port is now emitted unconditionally rather than only when non-default, so the
value does not depend on libplctag's own default; a port <= 0 still falls back to
the bare host rather than producing "host:0".
The load-bearing guard is the AbLegacy integration suite, which addresses each
family on a non-default port and cannot pass unless the port is honoured — 4/4
green, having never once passed before. Unit tests in both drivers pin the
composition for machines with no fixtures. Falsified both ways: reverting the
runtime line reddens all 4 integration tests; dropping the port > 0 guard reddens
exactly the two fallback cases.
AbCip integration 10/13 (3 pre-existing skips), AbCip unit 345, AbLegacy unit 219.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015p7wGqy3YpZNCpDzTpGMKo
Both `IDriver` members had no production call site. Their only consumer was
`MemoryTracking`, deleted with the driver-tier recycle machinery in #522, and
`GetMemoryFootprint`'s doc-comment claimed "polled every 30s by Core" — which
had not been true since v3, even before #522 removed the poller.
Owner decision on #525 was (a) delete rather than (b) build the process-wide
watchdog that would consume them. The driver-side implementations are in git
history and were mostly reusable; what was always missing is the trigger, and a
member nobody calls is how the misleading doc-comment survived this long.
Removed from `IDriver`, all 12 driver implementations, and every test stub —
plus the support code that existed only to feed them, which is the part a
member-only deletion would have left behind as dead weight:
- MTConnect's three per-entry byte-weight constants, its cached
`ProbeModelDataItemCount`, and `CountDataItems` — a full device-tree walk run
on every cache fill to populate a number with no remaining reader.
- OpcUaClient's `_discoveredNodeCount` field and the discovery-pass write to it.
- MQTT's `ApproxBytesPerAuthoredTag`.
Two behavioural notes, neither a change in what the software does:
- `AbCipTemplateCache` now has no production reset path. Its only caller was
AB CIP's flush, which itself had no caller — so nothing changes except how
visible the fact is. Recorded on the type, along with the correction that its
comment's claim about a device `ReinitializeAsync` also flushing it was never
true. A UDT redefined on a live controller keeps its stale shape until the
driver instance is rebuilt.
- MTConnect's `/probe` cache is still dropped, by `InvalidateProbeModel()` on an
Agent restart. That is now `internal` rather than `private` so the tests which
used the flush purely to empty the cache drive the real path instead — they
now cover a case that actually occurs in production. Several unrelated doc
comments cited `FlushOptionalCachesAsync` as the canonical CAS example and are
repointed to it.
Tests: the ones that existed only to assert on the removed members are deleted
(3 OpcUaClient, 3 Galaxy, 2 MQTT, 1 MTConnect, 1 AbCip). Worth noting one was
vacuous — `FlushOptionalCachesAsync_resets_footprint_counter` asserted a
footprint of 0 before the flush and 0 after with no discovery in between, so it
would have passed against a flush that did nothing at all.
Full suite green except 7 failures verified identical on master before and
after (4 AbLegacy integration with the compose profile down, 3
Host.IntegrationTests), checked by name rather than assumed.
Docs corrected where they described this as live: `DriverLifecycle.md` (which
carried the #525 placeholder), `drivers/AbCip.md`, `drivers/AbLegacy.md`, and
`v2/driver-stability.md` — whose "polls this every 30 s" + per-driver
`DriverConfig` memory budget were never built as written and are now banner-ed
as design intent rather than description.

Removes the tag-set drift detector shipped in e77c8a35. The design was sound
-- the tautology drivers were correctly gated out, and the structurally
undetectable "vanished" direction was declared rather than faked -- but none of
that is the objection. The feature browsed real plant equipment on a recurring
timer, at a frequency no operator could configure (the interval was a
constructor parameter with no appsettings key), and that outbound traffic was
never once observed against a real PLC, CNC or MTConnect Agent.
Removed: TagSetDrift/TagSetDriftDetector; DriverInstanceActor's drift timer,
tick message, Props/ctor parameter, gate, handler and leaf-collector;
ITagDiscovery.AuthoredDiscoveryRefs + .DiscoveryStreamIncludesAuthoredTags and
their four implementations; 14 tests.
Kept: ITagDiscovery.SupportsOnlineDiscovery (it predates this and drives the
universal browse picker), and the whole IRediscoverable consumption from
09a401b8 -- the driver tells us, we do not poll.
CONSEQUENCE, deliberately accepted: AbCip and FOCAS browse a live backend but
implement no IRediscoverable, so they now have NO tag-change signal at all -- a
PLC re-download is invisible until someone re-browses by hand. Recorded in
CLAUDE.md so the next reader does not have to rediscover it, along with the
shape to reach for if that coverage is wanted back (event-driven, or triggered
by a reconnect/deploy, not a wall-clock timer).
Runtime.Tests 476 pass / 13 skipped (skip set unchanged); FOCAS 275, TwinCAT
192, MTConnect 491, AbCip 342, Core.Abstractions 266 all green.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015p7wGqy3YpZNCpDzTpGMKo
The second thing #516/§8.2 deliberately did not build. The original objection
stands — Modbus, S7, MQTT, AbLegacy and Sql echo authored config from
DiscoverAsync, so diffing discovered against authored is a tautology for them
— but it is now ENCODED rather than used as a reason not to build.
The discriminator already existed: ITagDiscovery.SupportsOnlineDiscovery is
documented as "enumerates the tag set from the live backend rather than
replaying pre-declared/authored tags", and it separates the fleet cleanly —
FOCAS, TwinCAT, MTConnect and AbCip true; the five config-echo drivers
explicitly false. The check runs only for a driver that is
SupportsOnlineDiscovery AND reports the new AuthoredDiscoveryRefs. That is
nullable rather than empty-by-default on purpose: an empty collection
legitimately means "nothing authored, everything discovered is new", so
conflating the two would report total drift for a driver that never opted in.
Where the value is: AbCip and FOCAS browse a live backend but implement no
IRediscoverable, so before this they had no change signal at all. A periodic
compare is the only way to notice a PLC re-download.
A finding that changed the design: FOCAS, TwinCAT and AbCip all re-emit their
authored tags into the same DiscoverAsync stream as device-derived ones, so
the browse picker can show an operator their existing tags. Discovered is
therefore always a superset of authored, and a VANISHED tag can never appear
missing — one whole direction is structurally undetectable for three of the
four. Shipping a Vanished list that is permanently empty for them would have
been the half-inert seam this whole exercise removes. So the driver declares
DiscoveryStreamIncludesAuthoredTags, the detector does not compute the
undetectable half, and the operator message says "missing-tag detection
unavailable for this driver" rather than letting the absence of a missing-tag
clause read as reassurance. MTConnect is the only driver where both directions
work — its stream is purely probe-model-derived.
Behaviour: a failed browse is not drift (an unreachable device would otherwise
report every authored tag as vanished); a truncated capture is skipped for the
same reason; an unchanged drift is reported once rather than re-stamping its
timestamp; drift that resolves clears the prompt. Interval defaults to 5
minutes — it browses a real device, and a tag set changing is an engineering
event, not a runtime one. It reuses the Stage-2 surfacing, raising the same
/hosts re-browse prompt, and never rebuilds the served address space.
Comparison logic is a pure, separately-tested type rather than actor-inline.
14 new tests. The gate was verified load-bearing by deleting the
SupportsOnlineDiscovery half: the tautology-driver test goes red, and it
asserts discovery was never invoked rather than merely "no prompt raised",
which would have passed for the wrong reason if the timer never fired.
Full suite green except the same three pre-existing fixture-gated integration
suites, identical counts.
Every value verified against Opc.Ua.StatusCodes in the pinned SDK (1.5.378.106) by
reflection, not by copying siblings. All are client-visible: OPC UA clients branch on
status.
The three named in #497:
- Historian.Gateway SampleMapper "BadNoData" 0x800E0000 -> 0x809B0000
(0x800E0000 is BadServerHalted)
- Galaxy "BadTimeout" 0x800B0000 -> 0x800A0000
(0x800B0000 is BadServiceUnsupported)
- TwinCAT BadTypeMismatch 0x80730000 -> 0x80740000
(0x80730000 is BadWriteNotSupported)
BadTypeMismatch was wrong in three MORE drivers the issue did not name — FOCAS,
AbLegacy and AbCip carried the same 0x80730000. Every call site is a
FormatException/InvalidCastException conversion failure, so the name was right and
the value was wrong in all four.
Adding the reflection guard then surfaced nine further defects offline tests had
never checked:
- Galaxy GoodLocalOverride 0x00D80000 -> 0x00960000 (not a UA code at all)
- Galaxy UncertainLastUsableValue 0x40A40000 -> 0x40900000
- Galaxy UncertainSensorNotAccurate 0x408D0000 -> 0x40930000
- Galaxy UncertainEngineeringUnitsExceeded 0x408E0000 -> 0x40940000
- Galaxy UncertainSubNormal 0x408F0000 -> 0x40950000
- TwinCAT BadOutOfService 0x80BE0000 -> 0x808D0000 (was BadProtocolVersionUnsupported)
- TwinCAT BadInvalidState 0x80350000 -> 0x80AF0000 (was BadAttributeIdInvalid)
- AbCip/AbLegacy GoodMoreData 0x00A70000 -> 0x00A60000 (was GoodCommunicationEvent)
- Historian.Gateway GatewayQualityMapper Good_LocalOverride 0x00D80000 -> 0x00960000
Galaxy's whole Uncertain block read as though the OPC DA quality byte could be
shifted into the UA substatus position; it cannot — the substatuses are an unrelated
enumeration. GatewayQualityMapper already held the correct table, which is what the
Galaxy values are now reconciled against.
Guard: StatusCodeParityTests (Core.Abstractions.Tests, which already project-
references every driver) reflects over every `const uint` in the deployed
ZB.MOM.WW.OtOpcUa.Driver.*.dll whose name reads as a status code, and asserts it
equals Opc.Ua.StatusCodes.<name>. Discovery is by convention, so a new driver
assembly referenced by that project is covered with no edit here. It went red on all
nine defects above before the fixes and now checks 109 constants green.
Because reflection can only see a NAMED constant, two inline literals were hoisted so
the guard can reach them: Galaxy's BadTimeout/Bad into StatusCodeMap, and
GatewayQualityMapper's 15-entry table into a new HistorianStatusCodes. An inline
`0x800B0000u, // BadTimeout` at a call site is exactly how the Galaxy defect survived.
The drivers stay SDK-free by design; only the test project references Opc.Ua.Core,
as the oracle.
Also corrected: tests that pinned the wrong values (Galaxy StatusCodeMapTests,
SampleMapperTests, GatewayQualityMapperTests — all written from the same bad source),
a mislabelled comment in DriverInstanceActorTests, and stale constants in two design
docs, one of them the unexecuted MTConnect driver design that would have propagated
BadNoData's wrong value into a new driver.
The CLI's SnapshotFormatter value->name table was checked against the SDK and is
correct; no change needed.
Apply the reviewed Modbus exemplar to the AbCip multi-device driver:
- Mapper AbCipEquipmentTagParser -> AbCipTagDefinitionFactory; TryParse -> FromTagConfig(tagConfig, rawPath, out def); drop leading-{ heuristic + the deviceHostAddress key; add inverse ToTagConfig; round-trip arrays/members/safety for coverage.
- Options: Tags (typed) -> RawTags (RawTagEntry list); Devices list kept.
- Driver: byName-only resolver over _tagsByRawPath (Ordinal); table built from RawTags via FromTagConfig, threading entry.DeviceName (device routing key) + entry.WriteIdempotent onto the def. Multi-device routing keys on DeviceName-or-host via a _devicesByRoutingKey index; discovery groups _declaredTags by RoutesToDevice.
- Factory: retire the pre-declared Tags DTO/BuildTag; bind List<RawTagEntry> RawTags.
- Probe: derive probe tag path from RawTags via the mapper.
- Cli BuildOptions projects typed tags -> RawTagEntry (ToTagConfig).
- Tests: AbCipRawTags helper (typed def -> RawTagEntry); parser tests -> FromTagConfig; blob-fallback driver tests rewritten to author via RawTags + read by RawPath. Driver.AbCip.Tests 342/342, Cli.Tests 42/42.
TODO(v3 WaveC): DeviceName becomes a pure logical name once the device connection host moves to the Device row's DeviceConfig.
Task 3/4/5: SupportsOnlineDiscovery => true on AbCipDriver, TwinCATDriver, FocasDriver
(their device enumeration is real, config-gated on EnableControllerBrowse / FixedTree.Enabled
which PatchForBrowse guarantees at open). One gate fact per driver test project.
Follow-ups from the fleet-wide read-timeout audit that the S7 R2-01 read-leg
fix (PR #453) prompted. The audit confirmed S7 was the ONLY driver with the
async-read-ignores-socket-timeout hang; these are the two adjacent (non-hang)
findings it surfaced.
1. FOCAS TimeoutMs:0 footgun (the risky one): a non-positive Timeout made
SynchronizedFocasClient DISABLE its per-call wall-clock ceiling, reverting to
the caller's long-lived poll token — reintroducing exactly the frozen-peer
wedge S7 just eliminated, under misconfig. Clamp non-positive TimeoutMs to the
2s default at the config boundary so the deadline can never be authored away.
2. TimeoutMs validation symmetry: apply the same clamp in the AbCip + AbLegacy
factories. libplctag's Tag.Timeout setter throws on <=0, faulting tag creation
on every read/write; clamping keeps a misconfigured TimeoutMs:0 running on the
default bound instead. (Shared PositiveTimeoutOrDefault helper per factory.)
3. AbLegacy reconnect parity with AbCip: AbLegacy evicted the cached libplctag
runtime on neither the non-zero-status nor transport-exception read/write path
(AbCip evicts on both), so a data-path fault recovered only via the probe loop
/ libplctag internals. Added EvictRuntime + wired it into both read and write
failure paths so a fresh handle is created on the next call.
Tests: FOCAS 265->269 (clamp theory + positive), AbCip 336->339 (clamp theory +
positive), AbLegacy 209->212 (read-nonzero / read-exception / write-nonzero evict).
No production regressions; all three driver suites green.
Inject the custom UnwrappedCapabilityCallAnalyzer as an OutputItemType=Analyzer
ProjectReference from Directory.Build.props (excluding the analyzer + its test
project) so OTOPCUA0001 runs on every src/ and tests/ compilation — it previously
enforced its CapabilityInvoker-wrapping rule against nothing but its own 31 unit
tests (the 'built-but-never-wired' failure mode).
Triage of the ~280 surfaced hits, three categories:
1. RESILIENCE-DISPATCH-GAP (7 sites, DriverInstanceActor x6 + GenericDriverNodeManager
x1): a REAL, previously-untracked gap the analyzer caught on first wiring — the
Phase 6.1 CapabilityInvoker resilience pipeline (retry/breaker/bulkhead/telemetry)
is constructed ONLY in tests and was never wired into the production dispatch
layer. Scoped per-site #pragma with a greppable RESILIENCE-DISPATCH-GAP marker
explicitly noting these are tracked-but-not-intentional, pending the dispatch-wiring
remediation (filed as a follow-up). Keeps the analyzer live everywhere else in
those projects so a NEW unwrapped call still fails the build.
2. Driver-INTERNAL self-calls (3 sites, AbCipAlarmProjection x2 + S7Driver x1):
a driver's own poll/ack path calling its own capability method. The invoker wraps
the driver from the dispatch layer OUTWARD; a driver re-wrapping its own internal
calls would double-wrap. Genuinely intentional — scoped #pragma with that rationale.
3. Wire-level test suites + manual-testing CLIs (12 projects): invoke drivers directly
by design — the analyzer's own documented intentional case. Project-level NoWarn
with a comment.
Verified: full solution build green, 0 OTOPCUA0001 hits; analyzer's 31 tests pass;
negative control — dropping one dispatch-gap pragma re-fires OTOPCUA0001 and fails
the Runtime build, proving the analyzer is genuinely live tree-wide, not disabled.
Adds <summary>/<param>/<returns>/<inheritdoc> where missing and removes
project bookkeeping IDs (task/tracking refs) from shipped code comments,
so the docs read cleanly and CommentChecker is quiet except for known
false positives (PLC/protocol terms, event/IEqualityComparer inheritdoc).
Doc/comment-only; no logic changed; solution builds clean.
Cross-module fix from the review sweep. -018 (Medium): AbCipTagDto/AbCipMemberDto dropped
elementCount/isArray, so driver-config-authored array tags read as a single scalar. Added the
two optional JSON fields (additive; missing -> scalar as before) threaded into the tag def +
TDD.
Re-review at 7286d320. AbCip-016 (Medium): two cooperating defects made a declared array
member (e.g. REAL[4]) read one scalar/null — fan-out dropped ElementCount/IsArray, and
UdtMemberLayout.TryBuild ignored array members (mis-placing later members). Fix: thread
array shape through fan-out + opt whole-UDT grouping out when any member is an array + TDD.
AbCip-017 (severity-read StatusCode, Low) deferred.
AdminUI driver-instance pages serialized enum config fields (S7 CpuType,
Modbus DataType/Region, AbCip PlcFamily, ...) as JSON *numbers* because each
page's _jsonOpts lacked a JsonStringEnumConverter. The driver factories,
however, deserialize into string-typed DTOs (+ lenient ParseEnum) and throw
when binding a JSON number to a string? — so an AdminUI-authored config
containing any enum field produced a blob the driver could not parse,
faulting the driver on deploy. Proven end-to-end for S7 and Modbus; latent
for AbCip/AbLegacy/TwinCAT/FOCAS/Galaxy/Historian. Only OpcUaClient was safe
(its factory + probe already carried the converter).
Add JsonStringEnumConverter to all 9 driver-instance pages' _jsonOpts and the
8 missing driver probes' _opts (factories unchanged — already string-via-
ParseEnum; strictly more permissive, also lets pages load hand-seeded
string-enum configs back into the form).
Also fix DriverProbeHandshakeE2eTests.AbCip_Green_AgainstSim to probe a real
sim tag (TestDINT) — the no-tags @raw_cpu_type fallback is rejected by the
ab_server sim with ErrorBadParam (a real ControlLogix returns ErrorNotFound,
which the probe treats as reachable; hardware-gated follow-up).
Tests: reflection guard over all driver pages' _jsonOpts (AdminUI.Tests);
factory round-trip + numeric-form-throws guards for S7 and Modbus.
Found by running the never-before-run FB-9/FB-10 live verifies.
Replace the bare-TCP-only AbCipDriverProbe with a two-phase check:
Phase 1 keeps the existing TCP preflight; Phase 2 initialises a
LibplctagTagRuntime against the first device to open a real EIP session
and CIP Forward Open, so a live-but-rejecting CIP endpoint reads red
instead of a false-positive green.
Status mapping: ErrorNotFound / ErrorNoMatch / ErrorBadDevice → reachable
(controller answered CIP, probe tag absent); ErrorTimeout / ErrorBadConnection
/ ErrorBadGateway / ErrorWinsock / ErrorOpen / ErrorClose / ErrorRead /
ErrorWrite / ErrorBadReply / ErrorRemoteErr / ErrorPartial / ErrorAbort →
handshake failed. LibPlcTagException message text is used as a secondary
signal for the reachable-exception path. All other statuses default to
handshake-failed (conservative).
Add AbCipDriverProbeTests: invalid JSON, no devices, malformed host address,
closed-port TCP rejection, and black-hole timeout — all offline-determinable.
Happy path + CIP-error path covered live against the CIP sim.
Code-review follow-ups on the poll-loop collapse: (1) RetireAsync is fire-and-
forget and does NOT guarantee zero overlap — the retired loop runs until its
in-flight read+tick finish and it observes cancellation, so a device transition
landing in that one-tick window can fire once on both loops (at most ONE
duplicate raise/clear per reconnect, transient + self-correcting; upstream Part
9 conditions dedupe on ConditionId). Documented in both RetireAsync XML docs so
it isn't mistaken for a zero-overlap guarantee. (2) wrap Cts.Dispose() so the
fire-and-forget task has no theoretical unobserved-exception path.
The owning DriverInstanceActor re-subscribes alarms on every Connected
entry (DetachAlarmSource nulls its cached handle on Connected->Reconnecting
without calling UnsubscribeAlarmsAsync), and the driver object + its alarm
projection are reused across every in-place reconnect. Each SubscribeAsync
started a fresh, never-cancelled Task.Run poll loop and added it to _subs,
so N reconnects leaked N concurrent loops all polling the device and all
firing the same raise/clear transitions => duplicate alarm events + CPU/mem
growth.
Mirrors the Galaxy #399 fix (Clear-before-Add) but for live poll loops the
collapse must also CANCEL the superseded loops, not just drop references.
SubscribeAsync now snapshots existing subs under _subsLock, clears _subs,
adds the new sub, starts its loop, then retires each stale sub out-of-band
(RetireAsync: Cancel + await loop + Dispose CTS, fire-and-forget so the new
subscription's return isn't blocked on a poll interval). Snapshot+clear under
the same lock DisposeAsync uses guarantees no double-own / double-dispose.
There is exactly one consumer per driver instance (factory-per-actor), so
retiring all prior subscriptions before starting the new one is faithful.
Regression tests (TDD, fail->pass): subscribe twice then drive one device
raise; assert OnAlarmEvent fires exactly once (was twice with two leaked
loops).
Cheap-and-fast probe: open TCP socket to the configured endpoint,
close immediately. Surfaces SocketError on failure, latency on
success, "timed out" on caller cancel. Sufficient for the AdminUI
Test Connect "can we reach the host?" question. Richer protocol-
level probes (OPC UA session open, FOCAS handshake, gRPC ping)
are a documented follow-up. Each probe registered as
AddSingleton<IDriverProbe, X> in DriverFactoryBootstrap so they
flow through DI into AdminOperationsActor.
Historian.Wonderware returns a clean "TCP probe not applicable"
result because it communicates over a Windows named pipe, not TCP.
Also adds OpcUaClient + Historian.Wonderware.Client project
references to Host.csproj (both were missing from the driver
ItemGroup).
Move AbCipDriverOptions (and AbCipDataType enum) to a new
Driver.AbCip.Contracts sibling project. AbCipDataTypeExtensions
(which uses DriverDataType from Core.Abstractions) stays in the
runtime driver as AbCipDataTypeExtensions.cs.
Replace two doc-comment <see cref="Core.Abstractions.IAlarmSource"/>
and <see cref="Core.Abstractions.IHostConnectivityProbe"/> with <c>X</c>
per the approved decision — no compilable using was present.
The runtime Driver.AbCip project gains a ProjectReference to .Contracts;
the .slnx is updated accordingly.
Adds <summary>, <param>, <typeparam>, and <inheritdoc/> tags to public
members surfaced by commentchecker — resolves 5,847 of 5,869 issues
(99.6%) across three /fixdocs passes.
Adds Directory.Packages.props (ManagePackageVersionsCentrally) and
Directory.Build.props (net10.0/nullable/implicit usings/LangVersion latest).
Strips Version attributes from every csproj PackageReference and consolidates
versions into the central file.
Side fixes (necessary to keep the build green on .NET SDK 10.0.105 on macOS):
- Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.CSharp{,.Workspaces}: 5.3.0 -> 5.0.0. The 5.3.0
analyzer DLL references compiler 5.3.0.0 and the local SDK ships compiler
5.0.0.0, producing CS9057 on every project that loaded the Analyzers
output. Master itself was broken on this machine pre-change.
- Server + Server.Tests pin OPCFoundation.NetStandard.Opc.Ua.{Configuration,
Client} to 1.5.374.126 via VersionOverride, matching Opc.Ua.Server's
pin. Mixing 1.5.378.106 Opc.Ua.Core transitively with 1.5.374.126
Opc.Ua.Server breaks CustomNodeManager2 override signatures
(CS0115 on LoadPredefinedNodes/Browse/HistoryRead*) and CS7069 in
the tests. The pin disappears when the legacy Server project is
deleted in Task 56.
- Client.UI + Client.UI.Tests: NuGetAuditSuppress for
GHSA-xrw6-gwf8-vvr9 (Tmds.DBus.Protocol 0.20.0 reaches both projects
transitively from Avalonia.Desktop on Linux/macOS only).
Deviation from the plan: TreatWarningsAsErrors=true is NOT set in
Directory.Build.props because the pre-v2 Admin/Server test projects carry
~240 xUnit1051 analyzer warnings that would fail the build. New v2 projects
opt in via their own csproj; the global flag can return once the legacy
projects are deleted in Task 56.
Driver.Cli.Common-007 + Driver.Cli.Common-008 resolution.
Driver.Cli.Common-007 (High, Correctness):
0x80550000 is the canonical OPC UA spec value for BadSecurityPolicyRejected,
not BadDeviceFailure. The correct spec value for BadDeviceFailure is
0x808B0000 (verified against OPC Foundation Opc.Ua.StatusCodes;
corroborated locally by Driver.Galaxy.Runtime.StatusCodeMap and both
Wonderware historian quality mappers which all hand-pin the correct
value).
The bug was duplicated across six driver modules:
- FocasStatusMapper.BadDeviceFailure
- AbCipStatusMapper.BadDeviceFailure
- AbLegacyStatusMapper.BadDeviceFailure
- TwinCATStatusMapper.BadDeviceFailure
- ModbusDriver.StatusBadDeviceFailure
- S7Driver.StatusBadDeviceFailure
Plus the SnapshotFormatter shortlist that named 0x80550000 as
BadDeviceFailure, and three downstream Modbus tests that asserted
against the wrong value (so CI was blind).
This commit fixes all six native-mapper constants, the formatter
shortlist, and the three Modbus tests in one pass. Added a regression
guard to FormatStatus_does_not_apply_pre_fix_wrong_names that pins
0x80550000 never renders as BadDeviceFailure (mirroring the existing
-001 wrong-name guards).
Behavior change: OPC UA clients consuming the native drivers now see
the canonical BadDeviceFailure (0x808B0000) on device-fault paths
instead of the misnamed BadSecurityPolicyRejected (0x80550000). Wire-
level status semantics now match operator-facing CLI labels.
Driver.Cli.Common-008 (Low, Testing):
Deleted the redundant FormatStatus_names_native_driver_emitted_codes
Theory — its five InlineData rows were already covered by the
well-known Theory in the same commit (5a9c459), and used a weaker
ShouldContain vs the well-known Theory's ShouldBe (exact match).
Verification:
- Driver.Cli.Common.Tests: 43/43 pass (was 48 after the -008 deletion).
- Driver.Modbus.Tests: 263/263 pass.
- Driver.AbCip.Tests: 262/262.
- Driver.AbLegacy.Tests: 157/157.
- Driver.FOCAS.Tests: 178/178.
- Driver.S7.Tests: 112/112.
- Driver.TwinCAT.Tests: 131/131.
Total: 1146 tests across the affected modules, all green.

- Driver.AbCip-007: inject an optional ILogger<AbCipDriver> /
ILogger<AbCipAlarmProjection> (default NullLogger) and log around
every read / write / template-fetch / probe / alarm-poll failure path.
- Driver.AbCip-011: LogWarning when InitializeAsync is configured with
Probe.Enabled=true but ProbeTagPath is blank — operators now see why
GetHostStatuses keeps reporting Unknown.
- Driver.AbCip-012: documented the LibplctagTemplateReader per-call
Tag cost as accepted given libplctag's own connection pool and the
low-frequency discovery use-case.
- Driver.AbCip-013: per-device AllowPacking + ConnectionSize overrides
on AbCipDeviceOptions, threaded through AbCipTagCreateParams; central
BuildCreateParams helper replaces five ad-hoc clones; AllowPacking
now reaches Tag.AllowPacking at runtime.
- Driver.AbCip-015: stale-comment sweep — every PR-N forward-reference
is rewritten to describe present behaviour.

The file was physically deleted and unstaged in the Driver.AbCip-006

Finding 005 revised approach: keep the parent Structure tag in
`_tagsByName` so the whole-UDT grouping planner can find it (required
for Driver.AbCip-003 opt-in path + alarm projection). Instead, detect a
direct read of a Structure-with-Members in `ReadSingleAsync` and return
`BadNotSupported` rather than Good/null — explicitly documenting the
contract that callers must address member paths. Duplicate-key checks
(scalar and member fan-out) remain.
Finding 014 test corrections: `Structure_parent_tag_read_returns_BadNotSupported`
now asserts the new contract. `Read_UDInt_tag_returns_uint_value_not_negative_wrapped_int`
assertion fixed to use `ShouldBeOfType<uint>()` instead of
`ShouldNotBe(-1)` (Shouldly overflows comparing uint.MaxValue with int).

Add `EvictRuntime` helper that removes + disposes a stale
`ConcurrentDictionary` entry. Call it from `ReadSingleAsync`,
`ReadGroupAsync`, and `WriteAsync` on non-zero libplctag status and
transport exceptions so the next call for the same tag re-creates a
fresh handle — mirroring the probe loop's recreate-on-failure pattern.
Value-conversion exceptions (NotSupportedException, FormatException,
InvalidCastException, OverflowException) are not transport faults and
do not evict the handle.

`PlcTagHandle` and `DeviceState.TagHandles` were dead scaffolding: the
`ReleaseHandle` no-op never called `plc_tag_destroy` and the dict was
never populated. Removed the file, the dead dict, and its
`DisposeHandles` loop. Updated the `AbCipDriver` class doc to document
that native lifetime is owned by libplctag.NET `Tag.Dispose()` (invoked
from `DisposeHandles`) with the library's own finalizer covering any
GC-collected instances. Two test methods that only exercised the dead
`PlcTagHandle` class removed from `AbCipDriverTests`.

Structure tags with declared Members no longer register the bare parent
name in `_tagsByName` — reading it would return Good/null, which is
misleading. Clients read individual member paths. Both the member
fan-out and the scalar-tag paths now perform a duplicate-key check that
throws `InvalidOperationException` naming both colliding entries (fail-
fast, consistent with the AbCipHostAddress validation pattern).

`ToDriverDataType` mapped LInt/ULInt to Int32 (truncation) and UDInt
to Int32 (negative wrap for values > Int32.MaxValue). DriverDataType
already carries Int64/UInt64/UInt32, so map each Logix 64-bit and
unsigned-32-bit type to the correct member. `DecodeValueAt` in
`LibplctagTagRuntime` updated to return uint/ulong for UDInt/ULInt
so the runtime value type agrees with the declared OPC UA type.

Driver.AbCip-001 — ReinitializeAsync silently discarded its config JSON.
Extracted AbCipDriverFactoryExtensions.ParseOptions; InitializeAsync now
re-parses a content-bearing driverConfigJson and replaces _options (and
recreates the alarm projection), so a reinitialize with a changed config
(new device/tag, changed timeout) actually takes effect. A blank or
empty-object JSON keeps construction-time options for the unit-test seam.
Driver.AbCip-002 — libplctag status mapping used wrong integer constants.
MapLibplctagStatus now switches on the libplctag.NET Status enum members
(Ok/Pending/ErrorTimeout/ErrorNotFound/ErrorNotAllowed/ErrorOutOfBounds/…)
instead of hand-typed natives, so timeout/not-found/not-allowed/out-of-bounds
get their specific OPC UA codes instead of all collapsing to
BadCommunicationError. The int overload casts to Status to stay correct
against the wrapper's contiguous renumbering.
Driver.AbCip-003 — whole-UDT reads decoded members at declaration-order
offsets, which Studio 5000 does not guarantee. Added the opt-in
AbCipDriverOptions.EnableDeclarationOnlyUdtGrouping flag (default false);
AbCipUdtReadPlanner.Build forms no groups when it is off, so by default
every UDT member reads per-tag rather than at possibly-wrong offsets.
Driver.AbCip-008 — probe loops were fire-and-forget and ShutdownAsync raced
them. Each probe Task is stored on DeviceState.ProbeTask; ShutdownAsync now
cancels every CTS, awaits each probe Task (10s timeout), then disposes the
CTS and handles. DeviceState.Runtimes/ParentRuntimes are ConcurrentDictionary
and the Ensure*RuntimeAsync paths use TryAdd, disposing the losing concurrent
creator instead of leaking a native tag handle.
Adds AbCipDriverCodeReviewRegressionTests and updates existing AbCip tests
to the corrected status constants + opt-in grouping flag. AbCip driver +
test project build clean; all 244 AbCip tests pass. (The full-solution
build has pre-existing, unrelated Driver.Galaxy protobuf-generation errors
in this worktree.)

Group all 69 projects into category subfolders under src/ and tests/ so the
Rider Solution Explorer mirrors the module structure. Folders: Core, Server,
Drivers (with a nested Driver CLIs subfolder), Client, Tooling.
- Move every project folder on disk with git mv (history preserved as renames).
- Recompute relative paths in 57 .csproj files: cross-category ProjectReferences,
the lib/ HintPath+None refs in Driver.Historian.Wonderware, and the external
mxaccessgw refs in Driver.Galaxy and its test project.
- Rebuild ZB.MOM.WW.OtOpcUa.slnx with nested solution folders.
- Re-prefix project paths in functional scripts (e2e, compliance, smoke SQL,
integration, install).
Build green (0 errors); unit tests pass. Docs left for a separate pass.
