check tag presence in the catalog before history RPCs: bounded 4,096-name cache, negative 5 s / positive 60 s, explicit
absence only; faults and cancellation propagate. Uses a fully drained filtered catalog and exact names because the
deployed SDK misparses missing GetTagMetadata replies as Internal. Raw is empty; AtTime/Processed null + BadNoData.
Strict-ceiling stopped-tag reverse discovery retains truncated remainder rows/density and uses the discovery budget
(#696.2; 7,200 stopped 1 Hz rows: 17 calls before, at most 12 after, exact latest three). Per-sample aggregates reuse
a ceiling refusal for 30 s before re-probing; raw/AtTime remain immediate and lowered ceilings are learned immediately
(#696.3). With the prior item 1 fix, #696 is complete.
- **Verification:** full final tree 14,600 passed / 609 skipped / 0 failed across 62 suites; final independent review
found no important defects. Live missing-tag Raw cold 228 ms, cached Raw/Count/AtTime 0–2 ms with correct no-data.
SysTimeSec Raw timed out upstream both through the new data source and the original package client (DeadlineExceeded,
~30 s); existing-tag live success is not claimed. All five temporary read-only test keys verified revoked in key store.
No deployment or sibling gateway changes. Evidence: `docs/plans/2026-10-13-historian-653-696-results.md`.
- **ScadaBridge impact:** none — no HistoryRead consumer. #694 remains blocked on historiangw#27. #695/#697/#698
were closed at the user's request; #653/#696 results posted and closed with this fix.
