`IHostConnectivityProbe` was a dead surface: eleven drivers implement it, `GetHostStatuses()`
had ZERO production call sites, and `OnHostStatusChanged` had no subscriber outside the Galaxy
driver's own aggregator. Per-host connectivity was computed by every driver and read by nobody.
The issue offered "build the publisher or delete it". The publisher as its entity doc described
it — driver nodes upserting `DriverHostStatus` rows — is not buildable: per-cluster mesh Phase 4
gates `AddOtOpcUaConfigDb` on the `admin` role, so a driver-only node has no ConfigDb connection
to write rows with. So the capability is kept and the transport changed.
`DriverHealthChanged.HostStatuses` now carries the probe result to `/hosts` as a Hosts column.
That channel already reached the page, already survives the mesh split via the Phase 5 gRPC
telemetry stream, and already replays a last-value snapshot on re-subscribe — so per-host state
re-primes after a reconnect without a durable store. Both halves of the interface finally do
what they are for: the event triggers a prompt publish, the pull is the source of truth.
The point of the column is the case the driver-level state chip structurally cannot express: a
multi-device driver stays aggregate-Healthy while ONE of its devices is unreachable.
Two traps, both pinned by tests that were falsified against the prod code:
- The host digest MUST be in the publish fingerprint. On a single-host-down transition every
other fingerprint component is unchanged, so the dedup would swallow exactly the publish
carrying the news — the trap that already bit the rediscovery signal. Removing it turns the
guard test red, verified.
- null (no probe) must stay distinct from empty (probe with no hosts). proto3 cannot tell an
absent repeated field from an empty one, hence the explicit `has_host_statuses` flag;
collapsing them would render every probe-less driver as one whose devices are all fine.
Dropped: the DriverHostStatus entity, enum, DbSet, model config and table (migration
DropDriverHostStatusTable — empty on every deployment, so the scaffolder's data-loss warning is
moot, and Down() recreates it exactly).
Found en route, NOT fixed here: `DriverInstanceResilienceStatus` is the identical defect — no
writer, no reader, only a DbSet declaration, while the live data rides the
`driver-resilience-status` telemetry channel. Its doc-comment now states that rather than
describing the sampler and AdminUI join that were never built. Filed as #524 rather than widening
this schema change beyond what was asked.

Removes the tag-set drift detector shipped in e77c8a35. The design was sound
-- the tautology drivers were correctly gated out, and the structurally
undetectable "vanished" direction was declared rather than faked -- but none of
that is the objection. The feature browsed real plant equipment on a recurring
timer, at a frequency no operator could configure (the interval was a
constructor parameter with no appsettings key), and that outbound traffic was
never once observed against a real PLC, CNC or MTConnect Agent.
Removed: TagSetDrift/TagSetDriftDetector; DriverInstanceActor's drift timer,
tick message, Props/ctor parameter, gate, handler and leaf-collector;
ITagDiscovery.AuthoredDiscoveryRefs + .DiscoveryStreamIncludesAuthoredTags and
their four implementations; 14 tests.
Kept: ITagDiscovery.SupportsOnlineDiscovery (it predates this and drives the
universal browse picker), and the whole IRediscoverable consumption from
09a401b8 -- the driver tells us, we do not poll.
CONSEQUENCE, deliberately accepted: AbCip and FOCAS browse a live backend but
implement no IRediscoverable, so they now have NO tag-change signal at all -- a
PLC re-download is invisible until someone re-browses by hand. Recorded in
CLAUDE.md so the next reader does not have to rediscover it, along with the
shape to reach for if that coverage is wanted back (event-driven, or triggered
by a reconnect/deploy, not a wall-clock timer).
Runtime.Tests 476 pass / 13 skipped (skip set unchanged); FOCAS 275, TwinCAT
192, MTConnect 491, AbCip 342, Core.Abstractions 266 all green.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015p7wGqy3YpZNCpDzTpGMKo
The second thing #516/§8.2 deliberately did not build. The original objection
stands — Modbus, S7, MQTT, AbLegacy and Sql echo authored config from
DiscoverAsync, so diffing discovered against authored is a tautology for them
— but it is now ENCODED rather than used as a reason not to build.
The discriminator already existed: ITagDiscovery.SupportsOnlineDiscovery is
documented as "enumerates the tag set from the live backend rather than
replaying pre-declared/authored tags", and it separates the fleet cleanly —
FOCAS, TwinCAT, MTConnect and AbCip true; the five config-echo drivers
explicitly false. The check runs only for a driver that is
SupportsOnlineDiscovery AND reports the new AuthoredDiscoveryRefs. That is
nullable rather than empty-by-default on purpose: an empty collection
legitimately means "nothing authored, everything discovered is new", so
conflating the two would report total drift for a driver that never opted in.
Where the value is: AbCip and FOCAS browse a live backend but implement no
IRediscoverable, so before this they had no change signal at all. A periodic
compare is the only way to notice a PLC re-download.
A finding that changed the design: FOCAS, TwinCAT and AbCip all re-emit their
authored tags into the same DiscoverAsync stream as device-derived ones, so
the browse picker can show an operator their existing tags. Discovered is
therefore always a superset of authored, and a VANISHED tag can never appear
missing — one whole direction is structurally undetectable for three of the
four. Shipping a Vanished list that is permanently empty for them would have
been the half-inert seam this whole exercise removes. So the driver declares
DiscoveryStreamIncludesAuthoredTags, the detector does not compute the
undetectable half, and the operator message says "missing-tag detection
unavailable for this driver" rather than letting the absence of a missing-tag
clause read as reassurance. MTConnect is the only driver where both directions
work — its stream is purely probe-model-derived.
Behaviour: a failed browse is not drift (an unreachable device would otherwise
report every authored tag as vanished); a truncated capture is skipped for the
same reason; an unchanged drift is reported once rather than re-stamping its
timestamp; drift that resolves clears the prompt. Interval defaults to 5
minutes — it browses a real device, and a tag set changing is an engineering
event, not a runtime one. It reuses the Stage-2 surfacing, raising the same
/hosts re-browse prompt, and never rebuilds the served address space.
Comparison logic is a pure, separately-tested type rather than actor-inline.
14 new tests. The gate was verified load-bearing by deleting the
SupportsOnlineDiscovery half: the tautology-driver test goes red, and it
asserts discovery was never invoked rather than merely "no prompt raised",
which would have passed for the wrong reason if the timer never fired.
Full suite green except the same three pre-existing fixture-gated integration
suites, identical counts.
#507 was filed as "injection inert in v3, re-migrate onto the raw subtree".
Reading it, the retained code is not revivable: it resolves equipment from
EquipmentNode.DriverInstanceId UNION EquipmentTags, and BOTH are structurally
empty in v3 (AddressSpaceComposer always constructs EquipmentNode with a null
DriverInstanceId; DeploymentArtifact hard-codes an empty EquipmentTags set).
Removing the guard would have changed a log line and injected nothing. So it
is deleted rather than fixed, and #507 closes as superseded by /raw
browse-commit.
Removed: HandleDiscoveredNodes, PartitionDiscoveredByDeviceHost,
ShouldWarnPartition, PlansRoutingEqual, ApplyDiscoveredPlansForDriver,
_discoveredByDriver, the redeploy re-inject tail, DiscoveredNodeMapper,
DiscoveredInjection, AddressSpaceApplier.MaterialiseDiscoveredNodes,
OpcUaPublishActor.MaterialiseDiscoveredNodes, and the Runtime-local copies of
CapturingAddressSpaceBuilder/DiscoveredNode.
The connect-time discovery loop goes too (StartDiscovery, RediscoverTick,
HandleRediscoverAsync, DiscoveredNodesReady, TriggerRediscovery). With
injection gone it had no consumer, and leaving it would either dead-letter or
keep browsing real devices up to ~15x per connect to drop the result.
ITagDiscovery itself stays — the /raw browse picker drives it through
Commons/Browsing/DiscoveryDriverBrowser, which never went through the actor,
so the picker is unaffected.
deferment.md §4.4 called the 18 DiscoveryInjectionDormantV3 tests "Real —
blocked on #507". They are not: they assert an equipment-rooted graft
(EquipmentRootNodeId == "EQ-1") that v3 cannot produce, so they could never
have unskipped as written. Deleted along with DiscoveredNodeMapperTests, the
CapturingAddressSpaceBuilder tests, and the MaterialiseDiscoveredNodes tests
in AddressSpaceApplierTests/OpcUaPublishActorTests. Runtime.Tests skipped:
31 -> 13.
IHostConnectivityProbe is deliberately NOT resolved here. GetHostStatuses()
has no production call site and nothing writes a DriverHostStatus row, but the
table was re-created in the v3 initial migration, so deleting on inference
would be wrong. Split to Gitea #521 with both options costed.
CLAUDE.md, docs/drivers/{Galaxy,TwinCAT,MTConnect}.md updated — they described
the seam as dead.
Build clean; Runtime.Tests 476 passed / 13 skipped; OpcUaServer.Tests 362
passed / 4 skipped.
Nine drivers raise IRediscoverable.OnRediscoveryNeeded when they observe that
a remote's tag set may have changed — a Galaxy redeploy, a TwinCAT
symbol-version bump, an MTConnect agent restart, a Sparkplug rebirth. Nothing
in src/ subscribed, so every raise went into the void. Drivers even wrap the
invoke in try/catch for "subscriber threw"; there has never been a subscriber.
DriverInstanceActor now attaches the event in PreStart and detaches in
PostStop, mirroring AttachAlarmSource/DetachAlarmSource. Attach is per-actor,
not per-connect: the raise has no connection affinity and can land while the
driver is between connects. The detach is load-bearing rather than tidy — the
IDriver instance outlives the actor when the host respawns a child around the
same driver object, so a missing -= accumulates one handler per respawn, each
holding a dead Self.
The signal rides the existing driver-health snapshot to /hosts as a
"re-browse" chip. It is ADVISORY: the served address space is deliberately not
rebuilt, because v3 authors raw tags explicitly through the /raw
browse-commit flow and a runtime graft would materialise nodes no operator
approved and no deployment artifact records.
Two things worth knowing:
- PublishHealthSnapshot dedups on a health fingerprint, and a rediscovery
raise on an otherwise-healthy driver changes none of the four fields it
hashed. Without adding the timestamp to that tuple the dedup swallows the
exact publish carrying the signal. Reverting that one line turns 3 of the 5
new tests red, which is how it was confirmed rather than assumed.
- The new test stub implements IDriver from scratch instead of deriving from
the shared StubDriver, whose GetHealth() returns DateTime.UtcNow — its
fingerprint differs on every call, so the dedup never engages and the dedup
test would have passed vacuously either way.
The planned discovery-result drift detector was NOT built. Modbus, S7, MQTT,
AbLegacy and Sql all echo authored config from DiscoverAsync rather than
browsing the device, so a discovered-vs-authored diff is permanently empty for
them — it would have been another plausible-looking inert seam, which is the
class this audit exists to remove. IRediscoverable is the trustworthy signal
because the driver asserts it deliberately.
DriverHealthChanged, IDriverHealthPublisher.Publish and HostsDriverRow gain
defaulted optional parameters, so no existing call site changed. telemetry.proto
gains fields 8/9 and both Phase-5 mappers carry them.
Runtime.Tests 512 passed / 31 skipped.
Option A from the issue — the cheap consistency check, no interface change.
The desired ref set was re-applied on a Connected TRANSITION (`ResubscribeDesired`)
and on a deploy's `SetDesiredSubscriptions`, and nowhere else. A subscription lost
while the driver STAYED Connected — a subscribe that failed and was never retried,
a handle dropped down an error path — left the actor subscribed to nothing while
still reporting Healthy, indefinitely.
`ReconcileSubscription` now rides the existing 30 s `health-poll` tick: while
Connected, a driver holding a desired set but no live handle is re-subscribed.
Gated on `ISubscribable`. A driver that cannot subscribe at all can still be handed
a desired set, and without the guard it would be told `Subscribe` every tick and
fail every tick, forever.
This is a state-machine consistency check, NOT a probe — it can only see that this
actor holds no handle, never that a handle is present but dead server-side, because
`ISubscriptionHandle` is opaque. That is option B, and it stays deferred until a
real occurrence shows the handle outliving the subscription; it would need a
liveness member implemented across all eight drivers with different subscription
mechanics.
A redundant `Subscribe` is possible (a tick queued ahead of an already-queued one
observes the same no-handle state) and is harmless: `HandleSubscribeAsync` is a
`ReceiveAsync`, so no tick is processed mid-subscribe, and it drops any prior
subscription before establishing the new one. Suppressing it would need a
pending-subscribe flag threaded through every self-tell site — more state than the
race is worth.
`healthPollInterval` becomes an optional Props parameter, mirroring the existing
`rediscoverInterval` seam, so a test can drive the reconcile without waiting 30 s.
Three tests. The reconcile itself is proven by a stub whose FIRST subscribe throws:
nothing else would ever retry it, so a second attempt can only come from the
reconcile — disabling `ReconcileSubscription` turns it red. The two guard tests are
absence assertions and are bounded by a positive control rather than a sleep: a
counting health publisher makes ticks PROCESSED observable, so "still one subscribe"
means the reconcile ran and declined, not that the timer had not fired.
Explicitly not deploy-time drift (#486) — re-asserting an already-correct desired
set would not have helped there.
Part 9 ConditionType.Quality was never assigned; default(StatusCode)==Good
so every native + scripted condition reported Good unconditionally — a
comms-lost device still showed a healthy, inactive, Good condition (a
wrong-VALUE bug, distinct from the null-value #473/#475). Clients (and HMIs
bucketing on IsGood) could not tell "genuinely inactive" from "lost contact".
Layer 1 — make Quality a real, plumbed field:
- AlarmConditionSnapshot gains OpcUaQuality Quality (default Good).
- MaterialiseAlarmCondition sets it (native BadWaitingForInitialData, scripted Good).
- WriteAlarmCondition projects snapshot.Quality; the delta-gate gains a Quality
member so a quality-bucket change fires a Part 9 event.
Layer 2 — drive native quality from driver connectivity (a comms-lost driver
emits no alarm transitions, and an alarm-bearing raw tag has no value variable,
so quality can't come from either existing channel):
- DriverInstanceActor Tells parent ConnectivityChanged on Connected/Reconnecting.
- DriverHostActor fans it to every native condition the driver owns as
OpcUaPublishActor.AlarmQualityUpdate (Good on connect, Bad on disconnect).
- New dedicated IOpcUaAddressSpaceSink.WriteAlarmQuality sets ONLY Quality and
fires only on a bucket change — never touches Active/Acked/Retain (an active
alarm that loses comms stays active). Not a full-snapshot re-projection, so it
can't clobber severity/message and works for a never-fired condition.
Forwarded through DeferredAddressSpaceSink (F10b trap; auto-verified by the
reflection forwarding guard). Ungated by redundancy role; no /alerts row.
Scripted conditions stay Good; worst-of-input quality deferred to #478 (Layer 3).
Tests: node-level (materialise/project/no-clobber/unknown-node no-op),
NativeAlarmProjector, DriverInstanceActor connectivity emission, DriverHostActor
fan-out, OpcUaPublishActor routing, and the wire-level guard
(Condition_event_Quality_tracks_source_connectivity_on_the_wire) — RED-verified
against a simulated pre-fix always-Good server. Existing DriverInstanceActor
parent probes ignore the new ConnectivityChanged.

A calc-tag add/remove/edit or a script edit changes the merged DriverConfig,
which DriverSpawnPlanner routes to an in-place ApplyDelta (not a respawn), i.e.
CalculationDriver.ReinitializeAsync. The old ReinitializeAsync ignored the new
config: the tag table + dependency-ref set were built once at construction and
never rebuilt, so after a redeploy added tags never computed, removed tags kept
publishing, and edited scripts served stale results (deploy reported success).
Part 1 (HIGH): extract RebuildTagTable(config) — shared by the ctor and reinit
so they cannot drift — and have ReinitializeAsync re-bind the new config
(ParseOptions) and rebuild _tagsByRawPath/_changeDependents/_dependencyRefs/
_stateByRawPath under _lock, preserving last-known state for surviving tags,
dropping removed tags, and starting new tags fresh. _dependencyRefs now reflects
the new authored tags. Corrected the now-false ReinitializeAsync comment.
Part 2 (MEDIUM ordering hazard): the host's ReRegister was Tell-ed synchronously
alongside the ApplyDelta Tell, so the adapter re-read DependencyRefs before the
async ReinitializeAsync rebuilt them (stale set, no self-correction). Now
DriverInstanceActor sends DeltaApplied(driverInstanceId) to DriverHostActor
AFTER ReinitializeAsync completes, and HandleDeltaApplied re-registers only that
driver's adapter — sequenced after the rebuild. Removed the inline loop.
Test: added a redeploy test to CalculationDependencyFlowTests exercising the
real DependencyMuxActor + adapter + driver — a new tag reading a NEW dep flows +
computes, a removed tag stops publishing, an edited script serves the new
result, and DependencyRefs re-registers the new set. Fails on pre-fix code
(DependencyRefs stays stale ["src/a"]), passes after the fix.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01LVneM3eh1UtJxEisFXgmox
Remediates RESILIENCE-DISPATCH-GAP (surfaced by the 07/C-1 analyzer): the Phase 6.1
CapabilityInvoker resilience pipeline (retry / breaker / bulkhead / telemetry) was
constructed only in tests — the production dispatch layer called driver-capability
methods directly, bypassing it entirely.
The filed plan (thread CapabilityInvoker directly into DriverInstanceActor) is
INFEASIBLE: Runtime is deliberately Polly-free (references Core.Abstractions, not
Core — the same boundary IDriverFactory documents). So this introduces a seam,
mirroring IDriverFactory exactly:
- Core.Abstractions: IDriverCapabilityInvoker (+ NullDriverCapabilityInvoker
pass-through) and IDriverCapabilityInvokerFactory (+ null factory).
- Core: CapabilityInvoker now implements the interface; new
DriverCapabilityInvokerFactory builds a per-instance invoker over the
process-singleton pipeline builder + status tracker + tier resolver.
- Runtime: DriverInstanceActor takes an IDriverCapabilityInvoker (default =
pass-through) and routes all 6 dispatch sites (write, alarm-ack, subscribe,
unsubscribe, alarm-subscribe, discover) through it; per-host key resolved via
IPerCallHostResolver for single-ref calls, driver-instance key for bulk calls.
DriverHostActor builds + injects the real invoker per spawned driver.
- Host: DriverFactoryBootstrap registers the tracker, pipeline builder, and
concrete factory (needs DriverFactoryRegistry.GetTier). Runtime SCE resolves the
factory from DI like IDriverFactory; pass-through on nodes without it bound.
- Analyzer: IDriverCapabilityInvoker.ExecuteAsync/ExecuteWriteAsync are now
recognized wrapper homes (interface-typed invoker calls must suppress OTOPCUA0001
too). All 6 RESILIENCE-DISPATCH-GAP pragmas removed — the analyzer (an error in
Runtime) is now the standing regression guard.
Also adds retry / breaker-open / breaker-close LOGGING to the pipeline builder —
the operator-facing observability surface (the Admin /hosts reader, Phase 6.1
Stream E.2/E.3, was never built, so the pipeline otherwise runs silently).
Scope notes:
- Tier-DEFAULT policy only: DriverInstanceSpec (the deploy artifact) does not carry
the per-instance ResilienceConfig JSON, so overrides aren't applied yet (tracked
follow-up: plumb ResilienceConfig through the composer/artifact).
- GenericDriverNodeManager's call is NOT wired: that class is test-only scaffolding
(zero production references — the Server has its own address-space path); its
pragma is re-annotated accordingly, not left as a "tracked gap".
Verification (unit + analyzer; live behavioral gate still pending — see FOLLOWUP-10):
- Negative control: unwrapping any site fails the Runtime build with OTOPCUA0001.
- New Runtime guard (recording invoker): write routes via ExecuteWriteAsync with the
IPerCallHostResolver host; subscribe via ExecuteAsync — proves runtime routing.
- New analyzer test: the interface is a valid wrapper home.
- New pipeline-builder test: retry events are logged.
- Full solution builds clean (0 errors); Runtime.Tests 357, Core.Tests 238,
Analyzers.Tests 32 all green; pass-through default keeps existing dispatch tests
byte-for-byte unchanged.
Inject the custom UnwrappedCapabilityCallAnalyzer as an OutputItemType=Analyzer
ProjectReference from Directory.Build.props (excluding the analyzer + its test
project) so OTOPCUA0001 runs on every src/ and tests/ compilation — it previously
enforced its CapabilityInvoker-wrapping rule against nothing but its own 31 unit
tests (the 'built-but-never-wired' failure mode).
Triage of the ~280 surfaced hits, three categories:
1. RESILIENCE-DISPATCH-GAP (7 sites, DriverInstanceActor x6 + GenericDriverNodeManager
x1): a REAL, previously-untracked gap the analyzer caught on first wiring — the
Phase 6.1 CapabilityInvoker resilience pipeline (retry/breaker/bulkhead/telemetry)
is constructed ONLY in tests and was never wired into the production dispatch
layer. Scoped per-site #pragma with a greppable RESILIENCE-DISPATCH-GAP marker
explicitly noting these are tracked-but-not-intentional, pending the dispatch-wiring
remediation (filed as a follow-up). Keeps the analyzer live everywhere else in
those projects so a NEW unwrapped call still fails the build.
2. Driver-INTERNAL self-calls (3 sites, AbCipAlarmProjection x2 + S7Driver x1):
a driver's own poll/ack path calling its own capability method. The invoker wraps
the driver from the dispatch layer OUTWARD; a driver re-wrapping its own internal
calls would double-wrap. Genuinely intentional — scoped #pragma with that rationale.
3. Wire-level test suites + manual-testing CLIs (12 projects): invoke drivers directly
by design — the analyzer's own documented intentional case. Project-level NoWarn
with a comment.
Verified: full solution build green, 0 OTOPCUA0001 hits; analyzer's 31 tests pass;
negative control — dropping one dispatch-gap pragma re-fires OTOPCUA0001 and fails
the Runtime build, proving the analyzer is genuinely live tree-wide, not disabled.
Adds <summary>/<param>/<returns>/<inheritdoc> where missing and removes
project bookkeeping IDs (task/tracking refs) from shipped code comments,
so the docs read cleanly and CommentChecker is quiet except for known
false positives (PLC/protocol terms, event/IEqualityComparer inheritdoc).
Doc/comment-only; no logic changed; solution builds clean.
The HistorianGateway driver is now the sole historian read/write+alarm backend, so the
Wonderware sidecar projects are dead code. Removes the 5 Wonderware projects (driver,
.Client, .Client.Contracts, + their 2 test projects) from the solution and tree, and fully
retires the vestigial 'Historian.Wonderware' driver type (UI/probe-only; it had no driver
factory): the Host probe registration, the AdminUI driver-config surface (driver page,
tag-config editor/model/validator entry, address picker/builder, driver-type catalog +
dropdown + edit-router entries), and their tests. Prunes the now-unused Wonderware
connection fields (Host/Port/UseTls/ServerCertThumbprint/SharedSecret) from
AlarmHistorianOptions (keeping Enabled + the SQLite store-and-forward knobs) and refreshes
the stale XML docs that named Wonderware as the production backend.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_012SDSQ3AcaXqPcBtDESBRii
GalaxyDriver's StreamAlarms feed is session-less and survives an in-place
reconnect, so DriverInstanceActor re-subscribed on every Connected re-entry
(after dropping its own cached handle without an Unsubscribe — sync teardown).
The re-subscribe was additive: _alarmSubscriptions.Add grew the list by one
untracked handle per reconnect cycle — a slow unbounded leak. Functionally
harmless (the gate is Count>0 and OnAlarmFeedTransition only reads [0], firing
once regardless), but it accumulated forever.
Fix: SubscribeAlarmsAsync clears the set before adding, collapsing to a single
live handle (under the existing _alarmHandlersLock, atomic w.r.t. the fan-out
reader). There is exactly one consumer per driver instance (factory-per-actor
lifecycle), so replacing the set with the latest handle is faithful. Chosen
over making the actor's sync DetachAlarmSource call UnsubscribeAlarmsAsync
async/fire-and-forget — disproportionate for a minor leak.
Regression test Re_subscribe_collapses_to_a_single_handle_no_accumulation
(TDD-verified: FAILS without the Clear — releasing the latest handle leaves
the feed open because stale handles remain; PASSES with the fix). Galaxy tests
263 pass / 3 skip; Runtime native-alarm 24 pass. Code-reviewed (approved).
- Correct the misleading DetachAlarmSource comment: a session-less feed (Galaxy) is NOT
torn down on an in-place reconnect, so re-subscribe is additive (harmless; gate reads [0]).
- Add trace-only SubscribeAlarms drop handlers in Connecting/Reconnecting (symmetry with
NativeAlarmRaised) so a self-tell overtaken by a queued disconnect doesn't dead-letter.
- Document the deliberate no-unsubscribe-on-empty asymmetry vs the value path.
Behavior-neutral for the un-gate path. Minor handle-accumulation leak tracked as follow-up.
Phase B native alarms never fired end-to-end: GalaxyDriver suppresses OnAlarmEvent until
an alarm subscription exists (_alarmSubscriptions.Count > 0), but the runtime only attached
the OnAlarmEvent handler and never called SubscribeAlarmsAsync — so the central feed stayed
gated and no transition reached the Part 9 condition / /alerts. Unit tests passed because
they inject through the IAlarmSource seam directly; the deferred live /run surfaced it.
DriverHostActor computes per-driver alarm refs (alarm-bearing tags' FullNames) and hands them
via SetDesiredSubscriptions; DriverInstanceActor calls SubscribeAlarmsAsync for IAlarmSource
drivers on Connected entry and whenever alarm refs are pushed while Connected (the deploy path),
idempotent via a cached handle reset on detach so reconnect re-subscribes.
A DriverInstanceActor stuck Reconnecting/Connecting now adopts a config delivered via ApplyDelta and
re-initialises with it, instead of dead-lettering and retrying the stale config forever. A monotonic
init generation supersedes the in-flight init so the corrected config always wins.
Materialised SystemPlatform/Galaxy variables previously stayed
BadWaitingForInitialData because nothing told the driver to subscribe
(OpcUaPublishActor TODO 'on a future SubscribeBulk pass') and published
values were only forwarded to the VirtualTag mux, never the OPC UA sink.
DriverHostActor now, after each apply, groups the deployment's galaxy tag
MXAccess refs by driver and sends DriverInstanceActor.SetDesiredSubscriptions;
the actor retains the set and (re)subscribes on every Connected entry, so
values resume after reconnects/redeploys (closes the F8b/#113 gap). Published
values are also forwarded to OpcUaPublishActor as AttributeValueUpdate
(NodeId == galaxy MxAccessRef) so the materialised variable shows live data.
Verified live in docker-dev: galaxy TestMachine_001 tags go Good with a
changing TestChangingInt. +1 unit test.
- Topic-name drift fix: DriverHealthChanged.TopicName and
DriverControlTopic.Name now live on the message contracts in
Commons. AkkaDriverHealthPublisher, DriverStatusSignalRBridge,
DriverHostActor, and AdminOperationsActor all delegate to the
single constant so a rename can't silently desynchronise
publisher and subscriber.
- DriverStatusPanel._opResultClearTimer switched from
System.Timers.Timer to System.Threading.Timer + awaited
DisposeAsync. Prevents an in-flight 8s clear-callback from
invoking StateHasChanged on a component whose hub has already
been released.
- PublishHealthSnapshot deduplicates against the last published
(state, lastSuccess, lastError, errorCount) fingerprint. The
30s heartbeat no longer floods the SignalR layer with identical
Healthy snapshots — newly-joined clients still warm up via the
snapshot store on JoinDriver.
- DriverInstanceSpec carries ClusterId from the deployment artifact;
DriverHostActor threads the real cluster identity into
DriverInstanceActor instead of the local NodeId. Old pre-PR
artifacts without a ClusterId field fall back to the NodeId so
in-flight deployments keep working.
- DriverHostActor.ChildEntry holds the full DriverInstanceSpec
(was only carrying DriverType + LastConfigJson). Restart respawns
preserve RowId, Name, Enabled, ClusterId — no placeholder values.
- Drop the unnecessary _faultLock on DriverInstanceActor — every
read/write site runs inside an Akka message handler which is
single-threaded per actor instance.
- DriverStatusPanel.DisposeAsync awaits Timer.DisposeAsync so an
in-flight 5s tick can't invoke StateHasChanged on a component
whose hub has already been torn down.
- RestartDriver / ReconnectDriver messages + AdminOperationsActor
handlers (broadcast via driver-control DPS topic; audited via
ConfigEdits).
- DriverHostActor subscribes to driver-control; locates the
matching child DriverInstanceActor and stops+respawns it
(Restart) or sends it a ForceReconnect internal message
(Reconnect — re-enters Reconnecting state without full stop).
DriverInstanceSpec constructor call uses named args to handle
the full 6-parameter signature.
- New DriverOperator authorization policy mapped to DriverOperator
or FleetAdmin role; documented in docs/security.md. Map LDAP
group via GroupToRole (e.g. "ot-driver-operator": "DriverOperator").
- DriverStatusPanel renders Reconnect + Restart buttons when the
user holds the DriverOperator policy (hidden otherwise). Restart
requires an in-page Razor confirm block (no JS confirm, keeps
SignalR event loop unblocked). Both buttons show a spinner and
are disabled during in-flight; result chip auto-clears after 8s.
Username sourced from AuthenticationStateProvider.
Reconnect resolves to "ForceReconnect" (re-enter Reconnecting,
not full stop+respawn) — transport drops and retries while actor
and in-memory state are preserved. All DriverInstanceActor states
handle ForceReconnect safely (no-op when already in transition).
- IDriverHealthPublisher in Core.Abstractions + NullDriverHealthPublisher
no-op for tests/dev-stub paths.
- AkkaDriverHealthPublisher in Runtime forwards to the cluster-wide
`driver-health` DPS topic.
- DriverInstanceActor instrumented to publish snapshots on every
observable state change + a periodic 30s heartbeat so the AdminUI
snapshot store warms up for newly-joined SignalR clients.
- Sliding 5-minute Faulted-count tracked per actor via Queue<DateTime>.
- DriverHostActor.SpawnChild threads clusterId (_localNode.Value) and
the health publisher down to every DriverInstanceActor child.
- ServiceCollectionExtensions.AddOtOpcUaRuntime registers
AkkaDriverHealthPublisher as IDriverHealthPublisher singleton.
Adds <summary>, <param>, <typeparam>, and <inheritdoc/> tags to public

User confirmed the mxaccessgw client (Galaxy driver) doesn't need Windows
— only the gateway worker has that constraint. This wires the Galaxy
driver into the docker-dev fleet:
- docker-compose.yml: GALAXY_MXGW_API_KEY env var on every host service
(admin nodes harmlessly ignore it; driver-role nodes pick it up when
the seeded DriverInstance resolves ApiKeySecretRef=env:GALAXY_MXGW_API_KEY).
Default value matches the key the operator provided; override via shell
env (GALAXY_MXGW_API_KEY=... docker compose up -d) to rotate without
editing compose.
- seed-clusters.sql: now creates a SystemPlatform Namespace
(MAIN-galaxy, urn:zb:docker-dev:galaxy) plus a GalaxyMxGateway
DriverInstance (MAIN-galaxy-mxgw) in the MAIN cluster pointing at
http://10.100.0.48:5120 with UseTls=false. Idempotent via IF NOT EXISTS.
- DriverInstanceActor.ShouldStub: clarified the doc comment — only the
legacy "Galaxy" type name and "Historian.Wonderware" are Windows-only;
the v2 "GalaxyMxGateway" driver is .NET 10 cross-platform (gRPC to an
external gateway) and is NOT stubbed.
- README: documents the final operator step — sign in, click "Deploy
current configuration" on /deployments to materialise the seeded
Galaxy driver into a running gRPC connection. Raw DriverInstance rows
don't spawn drivers on their own; the v2 lifecycle requires a sealed
Deployment first.
OtOpcUaTelemetry (Commons/Observability) centralizes the project's Meter
+ ActivitySource so all instrumentation points emit through a single
named surface. Counters cover the hot paths:
otopcua.deploy.applied (outcome=ack|reject)
otopcua.deploy.apply.duration (s, histogram)
otopcua.driver.lifecycle (event=spawn|spawn_stub|stop|fault)
otopcua.virtualtag.eval (outcome=ok|fail|skip)
otopcua.scriptedalarm.transition (state=activated|acknowledged|cleared)
otopcua.opcua.sink.write (kind=value|alarm|rebuild)
otopcua.redundancy.service_level_change (level=byte)
Plus two ActivitySource spans:
otopcua.deploy.apply wraps DriverHostActor.ApplyAndAck
otopcua.opcua.address_space_rebuild wraps OpcUaPublishActor.HandleRebuild
Instruments are no-op until a listener attaches, so tests + dev hosts
pay nothing for unread telemetry.
Host Program.cs gains AddOtOpcUaObservability() (binds the OtOpcUa Meter
+ ActivitySource to OpenTelemetry, attaches a Prometheus exporter) and
MapOtOpcUaMetrics() (mounts /metrics scrape endpoint). Driver-side
internals + ASP.NET request metrics deliberately stay off — the scrape
payload is scoped to OtOpcUa signals only.
Tests use MeterListener + ActivityListener to verify
VirtualTagActor.eval, OpcUaPublishActor.AttributeValueUpdate, and
RebuildAddressSpace actually emit on the central instruments. Runtime
suite is 72 / 72 green (+3).
Closes#105. Path A (F13b/c/d) complete; next batch options: #85 UNS
folder hierarchy in SDK, or F8b/F9b production engine bindings.
Three pieces landed in one batch, closing F7-residual + Host DI #106:
Runtime/DriverInstanceActor:
- Subscribe / Unsubscribe message contracts; the Connected state
handles them via IDriver.ISubscribable. On every OnDataChange
event the actor publishes AttributeValuePublished to its parent
(DriverHostActor → OpcUaPublishActor). OPC UA StatusCode is
mapped to the 3-state OpcUaQuality enum via severity bits
(00=Good, 01=Uncertain, 10/11=Bad).
- DetachSubscription tears the handler off the driver on
DisconnectObserved, Unsubscribe, and PostStop so a stale handler
never pushes to a dead actor.
- WriteAttribute now dispatches IWritable.WriteAsync (batch of one)
with a 5s CancellationTokenSource; status-code propagated to
WriteAttributeResult on non-Good results.
Host:
- New ProjectReferences to Core + every cross-platform driver
assembly (AbCip/AbLegacy/FOCAS/Galaxy/Modbus/S7/TwinCAT).
Galaxy is net10 (gRPC client to mxaccessgw); the COM-bound net48
Wonderware Historian driver stays out of the Host's reference
closure — its .Client gRPC wrapper is what binds for historian
needs.
- New DriverFactoryBootstrap.AddOtOpcUaDriverFactories() registers
a singleton DriverFactoryRegistry, invokes each driver's
Register(registry, loggerFactory), and binds IDriverFactory to
DriverFactoryRegistryAdapter. Replaces the F7 NullDriverFactory
default so deploys actually materialise real IDriver instances
on driver-role nodes. ShouldStub() still gates per-platform
behaviour at spawn time.
- Program.cs wires AddOtOpcUaDriverFactories() before AddAkka so
the runtime extension can resolve IDriverFactory from DI.
Tests: Runtime 46 -> 52 (+6):
- Write returns success when StatusCode = Good
- Write propagates non-Good status code in failure Reason
- Subscribe forwards OnDataChange to parent as AttributeValuePublished
- Quality translation: Uncertain (0x40...) and Bad (0x80...)
- Subscribe against non-ISubscribable returns failure
- DisconnectObserved detaches handler so late events are dropped
All 6 v2 test suites green: 152 tests passing.
Closes F7. F7-residual sub-tasks #110 (subscribe) and #111 (write)
both shipped. Host DI binding #106 shipped.
