site deploy-artifacts and deploy artifacts rendered the per-site summary and
always exited 0, so a script could not tell a failed site (unreachable,
missing or unreadable secret, partial apply) from a clean deploy. Both now
route through the failureCount rule deploy site already used.
Code review of the merged arch-review remediation (Tasks 1-13) found four items.
1. FlowDebugRunner returned its OWN synthesized rows un-redacted. RunMethodAsync's
inbound row and RunValueChangeAsync's root row were handed to WriteCentralAsync
(whose writer redacts a private copy) and then put RAW into the returned Events —
so a Live run's caller saw the unfiltered row while Replay of the same execution
showed the redacted one, defeating F1's "Live shows what Replay reads back". Both
methods now resolve IAuditRedactor once per run and place the filtered copy into
the result (including the early-return path on a failed attribute write); the raw
row still reaches the writer, which redacts itself.
2. FlowGraphBuilder's spawner search degenerated to "the last step of the parent".
Since executions are ordered as contiguous blocks, position[p] < childPosition
holds for EVERY parent step, so a run shaped ScriptRun -> Write(A) -> Wait ->
Write(B) whose Write(A) fired the cascade drew the Spawn edge from Write(B). New
rule, in order: (a) the last non-async, non-Response parent step occurring at or
before the child's first step — parent and child of a trigger cascade share the
site clock, so this picks the write that actually fired it; (b) the position rule
as fallback, which is the mixed-clock case F5 was written for (a child clock
behind its parent's, where no parent step satisfies (a)); (c) parentChain[0].
The class remark's stale "Replay order is unchanged" claim is replaced with what
actually happens to a central Database.* call made after Route.To().Call.
3. FlowTraceCollector's byte budget counts UTF-16 chars of DetailsJson only, so
"well under the 4 MB gRPC default" overstated it. Documented honestly: ~1 MB of
UTF-8 for ASCII payloads, ~3 MB worst case for non-ASCII, both under 4 MB before
framing — and raise it only against a real serialized-size measurement.
4. CLI --timeout-seconds help + README row now say the management endpoint caps
flow-debug run-method at ManagementService:LongRunningCommandTimeout (default
5 min), so a larger client value still 504s at the server's ceiling.
Deferred-work register rows 112 (site-side inline trace truncation is invisible to
the operator — needs a proto field) and 113 (the F2 method-entry site scope gates
routed traffic only; ApiMethods have no site affinity to scope against) record what
this review deliberately did not fix.
Tests: FlowGraphBuilderTests gains the same-clock Write(A)/Wait/Write(B) cascade
(red before the rule change, and the clock-behind test still passes on rule (b));
FlowDebugRunnerTests extends the redactor test to the inbound row and adds two
value-change cases (settled poll, failed write). Commons 793, ManagementService 615,
CentralUI 1264, CLI 462 — all green.

The Flow Debugger design doc still described the pre-remediation shape: a
debug-stream subscription for the value-change entry, Deployer everywhere, an
unredacted inline trace copy and "~7 audit rows per call". Reconciled with what
shipped on this branch (Tasks 1-12):
- design D6 / §5.4 / §9 / §10: RequireFlowDebugger page policy with Deployer-only
execution (F3), the PullTraceEvents polling path with AttributeValueUpdate
fields 7/8 recorded as RESERVED and unconsumed (F12), the redacting + byte-
capped shared FlowTraceCollector (F1), route-time site scope (F2), the derived
client waits (F4), the 7-10 row estimate, the doubled central audit write per
routed call, and the inbound-row-after-the-run ordering.
- sitestream.proto: fields 7/8 marked reserved-but-populated, numbers not to be
reused (comment only; no regeneration needed).
- Component-InboundAPI: SkipBodyCapture on the RouteCall row (F11),
SchemaRefResolver's public visibility, WithSiteScope / SITE_SCOPE_DENIED (F2),
Replay's wider role set (F3).
- Component-CentralUI: page policy vs Deployer-only controls (F3), route-time
site scope (F2), client wait derivation (F4).
- "7-10 audit rows per call (3 of them trace-only)" everywhere the estimate is
quoted: the method form, both CLI --trace-all-calls help strings, the CLI
README, the ApiMethod entity doc, the manual migration script and the two
Flow Debugger plans.
- arch-review doc: new §7 Resolution listing F1-F13 with the fixing commit, plus
the tracking-store test race fixed alongside them (86451382).

New top-level command group for the Flow Debugger (design 2026-09-05 §7.1). run-method /
run-value-change post the FlowDebugRun* management commands with a 2-minute client wait;
replay posts FlowDebugReplayCommand. A table projection unwraps the FlowDebugRunResult
envelope to one row per step (occurred | kind | lane | target | durationMs | status |
error) using the Commons FlowStepProjector's kind/lane resolution, with a trailing note
row for an incomplete run (error code verbatim, e.g. STANDBY_NODE) or a truncated event
list. --params must be a JSON object (INVALID_PARAMS otherwise). README section added;
command-tree test bumped to 18 groups.

Flow Debugger (design 2026-09-05 §5.2): bit NOT NULL DEFAULT 0 column + EF migration
20260906034113 with its docs/plans/sql production twin. CreateApiMethodCommand gains
TraceAllCalls=false; UpdateApiMethodCommand gains bool? TraceAllCalls (null = unchanged so an
older CLI never resets it). Management result echoes the flag; CLI create/update expose
--trace-all-calls; README carries the ~7-rows-per-call warning.

P7-6 (behaviour fix, plan decision 1): DeploySiteAsync redeployed EVERY
deployable instance unconditionally. A redeploy is not idempotent at the site —
it resets static attribute overrides and clears native alarm state by design — so
one site-wide push destroyed live operational state on every unchanged instance
in the batch, which is normally most of them. Bulk deploy now pre-filters with
IStaleInstanceProbe (the same seam the bundle importer and Deployments page use;
its memo timing was fixed by the Medium wave's P7-4): an instance whose freshly
computed revision hash still matches its DeployedConfigSnapshot is reported in the
existing additive SkippedInstances list with reason "up-to-date" and never
flattened, staged or sent. The filter is deliberately conservative — every
uncertainty deploys: only an Enabled instance qualifies, a missing snapshot
disqualifies, a prior record that ShouldQuerySiteBeforeRedeploy flags goes through
prepare so the reconcile that HEALS it still runs, and a null/faulting probe means
"indeterminate". New additive MgmtDeploySiteCommand.Force (default false = the new
filtered behaviour) plus CLI `deploy site --force` restores the unconditional push
for the case central cannot see (restored volume, rebuilt node). Composes with the
Medium wave's P7-2: Disabled wins — force suppresses the up-to-date filter only,
never the Disabled skip.
P7-5 (verified, then fixed): the cascade REPRODUCES. All three bulk phases share
one scoped DbContext, and a failed SaveChanges does not untrack the offending
entity — EF re-attempts it on the next save, including MarkDeploymentFailedAsync's
cleanup write. Measured on a real SQLite-backed ScadaBridgeDbContext: a permanent
save failure on instance 1's post-success side effects failed instances 2, 3 and 4
and left all three deployment records stranded InProgress. MarkDeploymentFailedAsync
now detaches the pending changes (new IDeploymentManagerRepository.DetachPendingChanges)
when the cleanup save fails and retries the Failed write once on the clean tracker,
so later instances save cleanly and the record reaches a terminal status. The
DeployFailed audit row moved outside the status-write try (best-effort, must not be
lost because the status write failed).
Tests: 5 new DeploySiteAsyncTests (skip + reason + no site round-trip; --force
deploys; Disabled skipped under both force values; the three not-enough-to-skip
guards), 2 new IntegrationTests over a real EF context (the poisoned-context
cascade, and the narrow EF tracking fact the fix rests on), CLI --force flag
parse test, and a MgmtDeploySite wire-default test. Proof of failure: both P7-6
behaviour tests and both P7-5 assertions fail against the unfixed code.
Register row 98 — the site-scope authorization gate was FAIL-OPEN on an
unresolvable target. The resolve-then-check shape was written as
`if (target != null) EnforceSiteScope(...)`, so a null resolve skipped the
check entirely and a site-scoped caller passed the gate for any id in the
system. Authorization now fails CLOSED: a target that cannot be PROVEN to sit
inside the caller's scope is treated as outside it.
The defect turned out to have THREE more instances than the register recorded.
Besides `EnforceSiteScopeForInstance` and `EnforceSiteScopeForIdentifier`, the
same inline shape sat in `HandleGetInstance`, `HandleGetSite` and
`HandleGetDataConnection` — read handlers that resolve their own target and so
never call the helpers. Those were the sharper half of the bug: they answered
success-with-null for a nonexistent id and Unauthorized for an out-of-scope
one, making the pair an id-enumeration oracle over the whole fleet. All five
now route through one shared `DenyUnresolvedTargetIfScoped` arm.
Two properties are load-bearing and pinned by tests:
- System-wide callers (Administrator, or a Deployer with no site grants) are
untouched — they return at the guards above the lookup and keep the
handler's ordinary "not found" / null answer.
- The denial is indistinguishable from an out-of-scope denial: same
ManagementUnauthorized shape, and a message that never states whether the
target exists.
Register row 99 — CLI `audit query --status delivered` failed client-side while
the server would have accepted it: `AcceptOnlyFromAmong` matches ordinally
against the capitalised literals. Same treatment row 88 gave `deploy status` —
the client-side gate is removed, the valid set moves into the option help text,
and the server becomes the single authoritative check.
That required ADDING the server check, not just relying on one: the shared
audit filter parser was LAX, silently dropping an unrecognised value and
leaving the dimension unconstrained — so removing the CLI gate alone would have
turned a loud client-side failure into a plausible, complete-looking page that
did not answer the question asked. New `ParseEnumListStrict` (case-insensitive,
rejects ordinals — `Enum.TryParse` accepts "3", and a filter is a name-based
contract) backs the ManagementService /api/audit/query + /api/audit/export
endpoints, which now return 400 BAD_REQUEST naming the valid set.
Other AcceptOnlyFromAmong sites surveyed in the audit group: `--channel`,
`--kind`, `--status` on BOTH `query` and `export` (6 uses) plus `export
--format` (rejected `--format CSV` though the server lowercases it) — all seven
fixed here. Deliberately left alone: `template folder reorder --direction`
(pure client-side literal, no server-side parse to defer to) and the global
`--format json|table` (CLI-local output selection, never sent to a server).
The CentralUI AuditLogPage drill-in parser and the CentralUI export endpoint it
feeds deliberately KEEP the lax parse — they read a query string a human may
have bookmarked, where a stale fragment must still render the page. Both
contracts now live side by side in AuditQueryParamParsers and are documented as
non-reconcilable.
Docs: Component-ManagementService.md gains a "Site-scope gate: fail-closed on
an unresolvable target" section and a strict-filter note on the audit
endpoints; Component-Security.md records the fail-closed shape under Deployer
site scoping; the CLI README marks the audit filter values case-insensitive and
states the no-silent-drop / no-ordinals contract.
Tests: 5 new ManagementActorTests fail before the row-98 fix (verified by
reverting ManagementActor.cs) and cover scoped+nonexistent -> denied,
system-wide+nonexistent -> unchanged (both Administrator and no-grant Deployer),
scoped+in-scope -> allowed, and the indistinguishability property. 21 CLI tests
fail before the row-99 fix. Four pre-existing tests that pinned the removed
client-side gate were rewritten to pin the new contract.
Deferred-work register rows 37, 86, 87, 88 — the structural duplication and the
three behavioral divergences it had accumulated, fixed together.
Row 37 (structural). `IDeploymentManagerRepository.QueryDeploymentSummariesAsync`
is DELETED. It and `QueryDeploymentListPageAsync` were two paged reads of the same
insert-only table with different contracts — raw offset vs page number, no total vs
total, no instance join vs joined, instance-id-list scoping vs site-id scoping. The
CLI/HTTP `QueryDeployments` handler now goes through `QueryDeploymentListPageAsync`
with a `DeploymentListFilter`, exactly like the Central UI page. The
`DeploymentRecordSummary` projection went with it (`DeploymentListRow` is the single
row shape); its `MaxPageSize` const moved to `DeploymentListPage`, which also gains
`DefaultPageSize`.
Row 86 (Medium, authorization — the headline). `SiteScopeService.ResolveAsync` was
claims-only, so an Administrator carrying `SiteId` claims saw the whole fleet through
the CLI (`ManagementActor.EnforceSiteScope` has always exempted Administrator) and
only their granted sites on the Deployments page. One user, one dataset, two answers.
Administrator = system-wide is the intended semantic on both sides; the UI was the
defect. The role claim is read explicitly with an OrdinalIgnoreCase comparison rather
than via `IsInRole`, which compares claim VALUES ordinally and only resolves when the
identity carries the matching roleType — the two sides must not disagree on a
differently-cased role name. An Administrator's site claims are not collected at all,
so the invariant "system-wide => empty permitted-id set" holds for every caller.
Designer is NOT exempt: the class doc claimed "any Admin/Design user" is system-wide,
which was true of neither side, so the doc was corrected rather than the bypass
widened.
Row 87 (Low). The scoped branch used to resolve the site grant into an instance-id
list by loading EVERY instance in the system, non-transactionally, on every scoped
query; the grant now rides as `SiteIdScope` and is resolved by the query's own join.
An unparseable permitted-site id is DROPPED, never ignored — dropping can only narrow
a grant, discarding it would widen it to fleet-wide. And `PageSize <= 0` no longer
means UNLIMITED down at the repository (`--page-size 0` materialized the whole
retention window): it means "unspecified" and takes the CLI's own default of 50,
capped at 1000. Bounding without telling would be silent truncation, so the handler
now returns a `DeploymentQueryResult` envelope carrying `totalCount` plus the page
coordinates actually applied — with a CLI table projection (mirroring row 57's
`AuditConfigTableProjection`) that unwraps it and appends a "showing N of M" note.
Row 88 (Low, UX). An unrecognised `--status` fell back to "no filter", so a typo like
`--status Sucess` returned every status — a complete-looking answer to a question the
caller never asked. It is now a `ManagementError` naming the valid values. Parsing
stays case-insensitive; a numeric string is rejected too, since `Enum.TryParse`
accepts "7" and yields an undefined value (guarded with `Enum.IsDefined`). Loud
failure over silent full results, per row 46.
Tests: 7 new `SiteScopeServiceTests` pinning Administrator = system-wide (verified
failing 6/7 against the pre-fix service, the Designer pin passing both ways); the
ManagementActor deployment suite migrated onto the consolidated query with new pins
for the status error, case-insensitive parse, numeric rejection, page-size default/
cap/floor, empty-scope-on-garbage-grant, and "reads no instances at all"; a repository
test for site-scope+status composing over a bounded page; and 6 CLI tests for the new
table projection.
The `entries` array is a serialized `AuditLogEntry`, so both fields are always
on the wire; the README sample showed neither, which read as if the payload
were the seven columns the table projection happens to keep. Row 57 added that
projection and the table section already names both omitted fields — the JSON
sample above it was the stale half.
Added both to the sample and documented their nullability, which is the part a
script author actually needs: `afterStateJson` is the post-change snapshot
embedded as a string and is null for deletes (no after-state), `bundleImportId`
is the import session id when the change came from `transport import` and null
for a direct change. Also grew the sample from one entry to two so it now
mirrors the table-output sample directly below it row for row — the same 412
Template/Created and 413 ExternalSystem/Deleted pair — which is what makes the
"the table drops these two fields" sentence checkable against the JSON above it.
Docs only.
The command passed no `tableProjector`, so `--format table` handed the renderer
an `AuditLogQueryResult` OBJECT. That takes the generic Property/Value branch,
which printed the entire `entries` array as raw JSON inside a single cell. JSON
output was and remains correct, and is the primary format for this command.
Adds `AuditConfigTableProjection`, mirroring `TemplateTableProjection`:
string->string over the raw body, applied only on the table path, returning the
input verbatim when it is not JSON or not a recognised shape so the renderer's
own fallbacks still apply. It unwraps the envelope to a row array — id,
timestamp, user, action, entityType, entityName, entityId — and drops
`afterStateJson`, the full post-change entity snapshot, which is the audit
analogue of template's fat child arrays: one per row fills a terminal.
`bundleImportId` is dropped as mostly-null noise.
`totalCount` would be lost by a plain unwrap, so a truncated page gains a single
trailing row with a `note` cell ("showing 50 of 137 — use --page / --page-size
for the rest"). When the page IS the whole result set the column is not emitted
at all, so a small query's table stays exactly as narrow as its data, and the
note row carries no `id` so it cannot be mistaken for an entry.
A `--detail` flag skips the projection and renders the raw payload, matching
`template list` / `template get` — that plus `--format json` is how to reach
`afterStateJson`. A bare array root is also accepted, so the projection does not
regress if the payload is ever unwrapped upstream or the deprecated `audit-log`
alias meets an older server.
Tests build their fixtures by serialising the REAL AuditLogQueryResult /
AuditLogEntry types, so renaming a server property fails the test instead of
silently blanking a column. CLI README + Component-CLI.md document the table
shape, the omitted fields, and --detail.
An external system's MaxRetries/RetryDelay existed on the central entity but never
reached a site and had no management surface, so every ExternalSystem.CachedCall
buffered with the S&F engine default (DefaultMaxRetries 50 x DefaultRetryInterval
30s ~= 25 min to park) whatever central had configured. The sibling
DatabaseConnectionArtifact had always carried its equivalents.
The consumption end was already wired: ExternalSystemClient.CachedCallAsync already
read system.MaxRetries/RetryDelay and passed them to EnqueueAsync with the 0-as-unset
convention. Only the transport and persistence were missing.
Commons
- ExternalSystemArtifact gains MaxRetries/RetryDelay as optional positional params
(0 / TimeSpan.Zero = unset), matching DatabaseConnectionArtifact rather than going
nullable, so it maps 1:1 onto the entity and the proto3 scalars.
- Create/UpdateExternalSystemCommand gain nullable MaxRetries/RetryDelay, following
the existing TimeoutSeconds "omit to preserve" convention. Both additive.
Central
- ManagementActor create maps both; update preserves-if-null.
- ArtifactDeploymentService projects them onto the artifact.
Wire
- site_command.proto ExternalSystemArtifactDto gains max_retries=7 /
retry_delay=8 (google.protobuf.Duration), mirroring DatabaseConnectionArtifactDto.
Additive: a pre-existing site decodes them as 0/absent, which IS the unset value,
so old behaviour is preserved. Vendored C# regenerated via docker/regen-proto.sh
sitecommand; csproj Protobuf item re-commented, no message types added or removed.
Site
- external_systems gains max_retries / retry_delay_ms via AddColumnIfMissing,
DEFAULT 0 = unset. Storage upsert, repository SELECT/mapping (new ordinals 6/7
appended so existing ones are untouched), apply path, and the legacy migrator's
explicit column list all carry them.
Replicated-table decision: external_systems IS in SiteLocalDbSetup.ReplicatedTables,
so this was checked against the AckTime/native_alarm_state precedent. Real columns
are correct here, not a JSON bag: the table has no general-purpose config column
(auth_configuration and method_definitions are both semantically specific),
timeout_seconds already set the additive-column precedent on this exact table, and
sibling database_connections stores the same two values as plain columns. Verified in
LocalDb source that RegisterReplicated re-reads PRAGMA table_info every boot and its
install script is DROP-then-CREATE, so capture triggers rebuild over the new column
set automatically, and SiteStorageSchema.Apply runs before registration on the same
boot. The only cost is the ReplicatedTable.ComputeDigest change, which the sync
handshake compares fail-closed - a mixed-version pair refuses to sync loudly instead
of diverging silently. Both-nodes-together is already the standing site-pair rule, so
no new operational constraint; recorded in topology-guide.md.
Also fixed: ArtifactDiff.CompareExternalSystem never compared MaxRetries/RetryDelay,
so a bundle import that changed a system's retry budget previewed as "Identical" -
harmless while the values were inert, a live behaviour change now.
No EF migration: the central ExternalSystemDefinitions columns already exist
(InitialSchema). Central UI already had both form fields.
Tests: site storage round-trip + unset-default, site apply path, central artifact
projection, proto round-trip (via the shared sample), management create/preserve,
CLI option parse + alias, and diff reporting. Fail-before verified on the two core
tests (expected 7 got 0 on the read path; expected 9 got 0 on the apply path).
Docs: Component-ExternalSystemGateway, Component-StoreAndForward, Component-CLI,
components/StoreAndForward, components/SiteRuntime, deployment/topology-guide,
CLI README (which was also missing --timeout-seconds entirely).
Deferred-work register row 46. HandleQueryAuditLog returned ICentralUiRepository's
(IReadOnlyList<AuditLogEntry> Entries, int TotalCount) ValueTuple straight to
ManagementActor.SerializeResult. System.Text.Json writes properties only, and a
ValueTuple exposes Item1/Item2 as public FIELDS, so the whole payload serialized to
the literal "{}" — the CLI faithfully printed an empty object no matter how many
AuditLogEntries rows matched, with no error anywhere in the stack.
Fixed at the handler (the layer that leaks the tuple), not the CLI: new Commons record
AuditLogQueryResult(Entries, TotalCount), mirroring the SecuredWriteListResult shape
already used by the other paged management query.
Also guards the whole class of bug: SerializeResult now throws on any ITuple result,
so the next handler that returns a tuple fails loudly instead of silently emitting {}.
Tests (fail-before verified — the query test asserted exactly "{}"):
- QueryAuditLogCommand_ReturnsEntriesAndTotalCount
- SerializeResult_TupleResult_ThrowsInsteadOfEmittingEmptyObject
- SerializeResult_AuditLogQueryResult_EmitsEntriesAndTotalCount
Docs: Component-CLI.md + CLI README document the response shape and why it is a record.
Six adversarial-review findings, each verified against the code first.
F1 (HIGH) CLI HttpClient capped every call at min(30s, caller timeout),
silently truncating deploy site's 5-minute BulkDeployTimeout and the
5-minute bundle export/preview/import calls — which printed a fake
"504 Request timed out" while the server kept working. HttpClient.Timeout
is now Timeout.InfiniteTimeSpan (the per-call CTS is the single overall
deadline, connect included) with the connect phase bounded separately on
SocketsHttpHandler.ConnectTimeout. The env override is renamed to
SCADABRIDGE_HTTP_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_SECONDS to match its new meaning.
F2 (HIGH) StaleInstanceProbe's process-static memo served stale hashes
because nothing bumped the watermark on three paths:
(a) BundleImporter commits through the raw DbContext, so no import ever
moved the watermark — a second import overwriting the same template
could be OMITTED from ImportResult.StaleInstanceIds. It now bumps
once per apply ATTEMPT: after the commit, and after the rollback too
(the probe runs pre-commit, so a rolled-back attempt leaves memos for
state that never landed; bumping on both paths is the simplest
correct shape, versus threading transaction awareness through a
process-static cache).
(b) CollectWatermarkBumps' default: arm silently no-op'd, contradicting
its own doc. It now sets unattributed=true — an over-broad bump costs
extra work, a missed one produces stale work.
(c) DataConnection edits route through SiteRepository.SaveChangesAsync,
which had no watermark at all, yet Protocol/Primary+Backup config/
FailoverRetryCount are revision-hash inputs. It now bumps (BumpAll —
a connection has no owning template) after a commit that touched one.
F3 (MED) CLI TemplateTableProjection read child ARRAYS, but ListTemplates
now returns database-projected TemplateSummary rows, so template list
printed all zeros. It now prefers the *Count scalars and falls back to
array length (template get still returns full entities). --detail help
text and README corrected: a listing cannot yield definitions, so --detail
renders the raw summary payload and template get --id is the full dump.
F4 (MED) DeploySiteAsync staged every PendingDeployment in phase 1 against
a 5-min TTL while phase 2 reached them one batch at a time, so tail
instances' fetch tokens could expire before their command was sent.
Staging moved into phase 2, immediately before each send; prepare keeps
its flatten/validate/record work. The staging write is the phase's only
repository touch and is serialised behind a 1-permit semaphore, so the
non-thread-safe DbContext constraint holds and the sends stay concurrent.
F5 (MED, latent) DeploySiteAsync leaked every held operation lock if
cancelled — a wedged per-instance semaphore is permanent for the process.
Phase 2 no longer throws (cancellation is recorded as a per-instance
outcome so phase 3 still runs), and an escape from phase 1 or 3 now
unwinds every unfinalised entry: Failed status + lock release.
F6 (LOW) ScriptCompileVerdictCache's promotion wrote hot directly,
bypassing SegmentCapacity (true ceiling 3x against a documented 2x).
Promotion now goes through Store, keeping generational semantics; _hot
and _cold are volatile.
Tests: CLI 396, DeploymentManager 133, ManagementService 494,
TemplateEngine 478, ScriptAnalysis 60, Transport 157, Transport
integration 106, ConfigurationDatabase 366 — all green, 0 build warnings.
The F2/F4/F5 regression tests were each confirmed to FAIL with their fix
reverted.
Two verified-absent parity gaps between the service layer and the CLI /
ManagementActor command surface, both left as follow-ups by the 2026-05-11
design plans.
(1) area move. AreaService.MoveAreaAsync had existed since the deployment
topology page shipped but was reachable only from the Blazor UI. Adds
MoveAreaCommand(AreaId, NewParentAreaId?) to Commons, a ManagementActor
dispatch arm delegating straight to AreaService.MoveAreaAsync (not-found /
self-parent / descendant-cycle / cross-site / name-collision all surface as
the standard curated ManagementCommandException failure response; the service
writes its own "Move" audit row), and the CLI verb `site area move --id
[--parent-id]`. Omitting --parent-id moves the area to the site root, matching
the command's nullable NewParentAreaId. The command carries the SAME any-of
[Designer, Deployer] gate as CreateArea/UpdateArea/DeleteArea (arch-review C6):
re-parenting is the same structural authoring act, exposed on the same two
surfaces. Placed under the existing `site area` group rather than a new
top-level `area` group, alongside its create/update/delete siblings.
(2) template folder verbs. The five folder management commands have been
handled by ManagementActor since the folder-hierarchy plan, but the promised
CLI surface was never written. Adds `template folder
list|create|rename|move|reorder|delete` mapping 1:1 onto ListTemplateFolders /
CreateTemplateFolder / RenameTemplateFolder / MoveTemplateFolder /
ReorderTemplateFolder / DeleteTemplateFolder. --parent-id is omitted to target
the tree root; --direction takes the lowercase literals up/down, validated at
parse time by AcceptOnlyFromAmong (same case-sensitive contract as the audit
--channel/--kind/--status options).
Follow-on updates: the frozen authorization matrix gains its MoveArea entry
(reflection-driven, so a missing entry would have failed CI); CommandTreeTests
pins both new verb sets plus the omit-parent-id-means-root parse behaviour and
registry round-trips; ManagementActorTests covers the MoveArea role gate and
the delegate-to-service success/root/cycle/not-found paths; the CLI README and
Component-ManagementService.md document the new surface (the latter also gained
the previously-undocumented ReorderTemplateFolder); both plan docs' follow-up
lines are marked done.
Phase 0 of the ClusterClient→gRPC migration
(docs/plans/2026-07-22-clusterclient-to-grpc-plan.md). Standalone hardening: it
closes a gap that exists today and is a precondition for moving command/control
onto gRPC in later phases.
T0.1 — delete the ManagementActor ClusterClientReceptionist registration.
It was built for an out-of-cluster CLI that was never written: the shipped CLI
speaks HTTP Basic to /management, which asks the actor in-process through
ManagementActorHolder. Nothing in the repo ever sent to /user/management. The
actor still runs there; only the cross-boundary advertisement is gone. Six
documents claimed the CLI used ClusterClient — including the CLI's own README
"Architecture Notes" — and are corrected here rather than left to rot.
T0.2 — record, do not port, the dead integration-routing path.
IntegrationCallRequest is unwired at BOTH ends: RouteIntegrationCallAsync has
zero callers anywhere, and RegisterLocalHandler(Integration, …) appears only in
a test, so production always answers "Integration handler not available". It is
excluded from the gRPC contract (28 of 29 commands migrate) rather than
enshrined on an additive-only wire format, and deleting it during a
transport migration would mix a behavioural change into a change whose whole
value is that behaviour is identical. See
docs/known-issues/2026-07-22-integration-call-routing-is-dead-code.md.
T0.3 — preshared-key authentication on SiteStreamService.
The service shipped with no auth at all: plaintext h2c, no interceptor, so
anything that could reach a site node's :8083 could open a live data stream or
read audit rows back via PullAuditEvents/PullSiteCalls. ControlPlaneAuthInterceptor
now gates /sitestream.SiteStreamService/ — modeled on LocalDbSyncAuthInterceptor
(constant-time compare, fail-closed, PermissionDenied) but gating a SET of
service prefixes so phases 1A/1B add services rather than interceptors. LocalDb
sync keeps its own separate key: it authenticates the pair partner, not central,
and collapsing the two would make a site's central-facing key also admit writes
into its database.
Keys are per site (SB-GRPC-PSK-<siteId>), never fleet-wide, so a compromised
site yields only its own. Central attaches them through ControlPlaneCredentials,
which binds CallCredentials to the channel — covering unary and streaming
uniformly, and letting the key resolve asynchronously, which a client
interceptor could not do without blocking. All three central→site channel
creation sites go through it (SiteStreamGrpcClient and both audit pull invokers);
the pull invokers' channel caches are re-keyed by (site, endpoint) because
credentials are per-site and bound to the channel.
Two decisions beyond the plan:
* StartupValidator now requires GrpcPsk on Site nodes. The plan specified only
the runtime gate, but fail-closed with no boot check produces a node that
joins, answers heartbeats and reports healthy while refusing every stream,
audit pull and telemetry ingest — silent and total. Same reasoning as the
existing inbound API-key pepper rule.
* Added Communication:SitePsks as a central-side key map. The plan assumed
central would read the store, seeded via a dev KEK; the docker rig
deliberately boots with no master key, so store-only resolution would leave
it unable to dial its own sites. The store stays primary — it is the only
source that can serve a site added at runtime — with the map covering
key-less hosts and one-off pins. Neither source falling back to
"unauthenticated" is the invariant.
T0.4 — dev keys on both rigs and tests.
34 tests. The seven that matter most exercise a real in-process gRPC stack over
TestServer: the unit tests on either side of the wire would both stay green if
the halves disagreed, and gRPC refuses call credentials on a plaintext channel
by default — the UnsafeUseInsecureChannelCallCredentials opt-in is only provable
by making a real call. They confirm correct key passes on unary AND streaming,
wrong key and no-credentials both get PermissionDenied, and an unresolvable key
fails the call with nothing reaching the service.
OPERATIONAL: a site node upgraded to this build without a key will not boot.
That includes the gitignored deploy/wonder-app-vd03/ overlay.
Closes the operator parity gap the deferred-work register tracked as #12: native
alarm source overrides could only be set one-at-a-time, while attribute overrides
had a CSV bulk path. Adds an all-or-nothing CSV import for native sources.
- Commons: extract the RFC-4180 line splitter into a shared CsvLineSplitter
(refactor OverrideCsvParser onto it — no behavior change, pinned by its tests);
new NativeAlarmSourceOverrideCsvParser (header SourceName,Connection,
SourceReference,Filter; blank = inherited).
- Commons: NativeAlarmSourceOverrideEntry + bulk SetInstanceNativeAlarmSource-
OverridesCommand (auto-registered via the reflection command registry).
- ManagementService: Deployer-gated handler — flattens once, validates every
source resolves + is unlocked + no duplicates up front, then upserts the whole
batch under a single SaveChanges (true all-or-nothing txn). Added to the frozen
authorization matrix; dispatch-coverage guard passes.
- CLI: `instance native-alarm-source import --instance-id --file` (parity with
`instance import-overrides`) + README.
- Tests: native parser (Commons), CLI parse/entry mapping, 3 bulk-handler tests
(happy path single-commit, locked-source reject, unresolved-source reject).
Also corrects a stale XML-doc line in ScriptRuntimeContext (WaitForAttribute
quality-gated mode is shipped, not "planned") and updates the deferred-work
register: marks #7/#13/#15/#16/#20 verified-resolved, #12 as CLI/API-shipped with
only the Central UI upload affordance still pending.

Closes the four remaining items in the 2026-06-24 template-inheritance/CLI
follow-up tracker.
#4 — CLI `instance set-bindings` can now set DataSourceReferenceOverride.
`--bindings` accepts an optional 3rd element per entry:
[attributeName, dataConnectionId, dataSourceReferenceOverride]. A string
sets the override; a JSON null or an omitted 3rd element leaves it unset
(template default). TryParseBindings accepts 2- or 3-element entries and
rejects a non-string/non-null 3rd element or 4+ elements with a clean
error. Previously the CLI sent the override as null and silently wiped any
existing one (only a raw POST /management could set it).
#5 — `template update` is partial, not full-replace (fixed server-side so all
clients benefit). UpdateTemplateAsync now uses leave-unchanged semantics:
a null description keeps the stored value (pass "" to clear); a null
parentTemplateId keeps the existing parent. Parent stays immutable — a
non-null differing value is still rejected — but omitting --parent-id is
now a no-op instead of failing every derived-template update.
#6 — compact `template list`/`get` table output + `--detail`. Table output is
now id/name/description/parent/derived + member counts (#attrs/#alarms/
#scripts/#comps/#nativeAlarms) via TemplateTableProjection, fed through a
new optional tableProjector seam on CommandHelpers. `--detail` restores the
full dump. JSON output is left untouched (always full) so machine consumers
are unaffected — the projector only runs on the table path.
#8 — structured deploy-time validation error. New ValidationResult.SummarizeErrors()
(Commons) returns a grouped, capped summary: leading total count, one line
per ValidationCategory, and a per-module rollup (canonical name up to its
last dot) with counts + "... and N more module(s)" caps. DeploymentService
uses it for the "Pre-deployment validation failed" message and logs the full
per-entry list via LogWarning. Replaces the flat semicolon-joined dump that
became a wall of text for instances with 50-194 unbound attributes.
Tests: +8 Commons (SummarizeErrors), +8 CLI (4 binding 3-element / 4 table
projection), +2 net TemplateEngine (partial-update). Affected suites green:
Commons 587, CLI 341, TemplateEngine 447, DeploymentManager 101,
ManagementService 230, CentralUI 866; full solution builds 0/0.
Docs: Component-DeploymentManager.md "Validation Error Reporting"; CLI README

Derived templates store IsInherited placeholder rows mirroring inherited
members, but a base member added/changed/removed AFTER a child was derived
never reached the child — leaving the editor's editable tabs incomplete (#1)
and stored rows drifted from the resolved set (#2).
Fix (one order-independent reconcile, two entry points):
- Auto-propagation: every attribute/alarm/script add/update/delete now
reconciles the template's derived subtree (TemplateService.ReconcileDescendantsAsync),
hooked into all member-mutating paths incl. native-alarm-source CRUD in the
ManagementActor.
- Resync: ResyncInheritedMembersAsync repairs a template + its subtree on
demand — materialize missing placeholders, re-sync drifted ones, remove
orphans, across attributes/alarms/scripts/native sources. Exposed as
management ResyncInheritedMembersCommand (Designer-gated, audited) → CLI
`template resync-members` → a Resync button on the editor's staleness banner.
Reconcile drives off TemplateInheritanceResolver (same precedence + HiLo merge
as deploy), only ever touches IsInherited placeholders (never an authored
override), and matches the staleness comparison keys so the banner clears.
BuildDerivedTemplate now also materializes native-source placeholders at
compose time (previously omitted → any inherited native source was perpetually
stale).
Tests: +8 TemplateServiceTests (materialize / drift-update / orphan-remove /
override-untouched / base-cascade / multi-type / direct-propagate / end-to-end
add) + 1 ManagementService test fix (native-source add resolves TemplateService).
Affected suites green: TemplateEngine 446, ManagementService 230, CentralUI 866,
CLI 333, Transport 127, ConfigurationDatabase 307; full solution builds 0/0.

InjectAnalysisKind returns null on a null/empty trigger-config, so passing
--trigger-kind strict WITHOUT --trigger-config silently dropped the kind on
template script add/update and template alarm update. The CLI now detects that
combination (TriggerKindWillBeIgnored) and prints a clear warning to stderr,
then continues (warn-and-continue: the kind is advisory metadata, not a required
field, so the entity is still created — just without the requested analysis kind).
The --trigger-kind help text on all three commands now documents that it requires
--trigger-config, as does the CLI README.
This commit also carries the shared CLI command-builder file (Commands/TemplateCommands.cs)
and README, which the same builders edit for both #257 and the #54 flag additions —
the #54 message contracts/handler/UI/tests landed in the preceding commit.
- TriggerKindWillBeIgnored predicate + WarnIfTriggerKindIgnored stderr warning,
wired into script add/update and alarm update SetActions.
- Shared option descriptions document the --trigger-config requirement.
- Adds the #54 CLI flags (--min-time-between-runs, --execution-timeout-seconds) and
TryParseMinTimeBetweenRuns to the same builder file.
- Tests: TemplateTriggerKindIgnoredTests pins the warn predicate.
Adds `cached-call retry` and `cached-call discard` subcommands that relay
to the existing Deployer-gated RetryParkedMessageCommand /
DiscardParkedMessageCommand via the central SiteCallAuditActor → site relay.
ManagementCommandRegistry already covered both types via reflection auto-discovery.
CommandTreeTests updated to include cached-call (group count 16 → 17).
